When Lucy’s mom, Daisy, was brought to Lollypop Farm, a humane society in Rochester, New York, she was covered in fleas and missing most of her fur. She soon gave birth to a litter of puppies on the first snowy night of the year.
Shelter staff worked around the clock to make sure the puppies were socialized with humans and other dogs.
At first, the Pit Bull mommy was very protective of her puppies.
“A lot of the animals brought to Lollypop Farm have different needs,” said Rebecca Lohnes, behavior manager at Lollypop Farm. “It’s because of the community’s support that we can provide dogs like Daisy with the veterinary services, behavior enrichment, and time they need to get a second chance for a new home.”
Originally, staffers didn’t notice that one of the puppies was sporting a unique mark on her ear. Once they did, it was highlighted.
After the photo went viral it took no time at all for the shelter to receive hundreds of emails and then find Lucy a forever home.
Daisy also found a forever home and has a new brother named Dax. She now spends her days cuddling under the covers with her new family.
