Childbirth is a beautiful thing, but sometimes it can come with complications that put both a baby and their mom’s life in danger. Even a seemingly healthy pregnancy can take a turn for the worse without a moment’s notice.
Shelly and Jeremy Cawley were happily awaiting the arrival of their first child, Rylan. The young family was shopping for baby clothes and everything was going fine.
During labor, Shelly had developed a blood clot that was clogging major arteries. Rylan was born healthy, but her mom began to slip away.
After a frantic fight to save her life, Doctors had pronounced her officially “dead.” Look at the equipment Shelly was hooked up to after giving birth.
As a last ditch effort, doctors did something more intuitive than scientific. They placed Rylan on Shelly’s breast where they made skin to skin contact for the first time.
“The doctors had done everything they could. At this time, they were absolutely sure that they would lose Shelly. You are so unbelievably excited that your child is born… and in the next moment you believe you’ll have to say farewell to your wife forever. It was like being numbed,” her husband said.
When they placed Rylan on Shelly’s breast, the mother began to show signs of life.
To everyone’s shock, Shelly survived and regained her strength.
One year later and the entire family is doing great.
