Placebo effect or not, mindfulness meditation is becoming a widely embraced tool at inner city schools. In 2014 the Journal of Child and Family Studies tracked the progress of students involved in these programs. The youth involved showered improved classroom behavior that lasted, on average, for seven weeks.
According to the American Psychological Association, it reduces stress, anxiety, pain, and eases depression. Until several more studies are done, it will be hard to tell how wide-reaching the positive effects of meditation can be in schools. Early results show that when implemented at the right schools, these programs work wonders!
