In the past 30 years, hybrid dogs have risen in popularity. These designer dogs are born from two different purebreds through controlled cross-breeding. As a result, animal-lovers get to pet dogs they didn't know were possible. How else can you cuddle a dog who looks like a wolf? Or hold a living cotton ball? There are hundreds of mixed dog breeds, but these are the most recent and surprising additions to the family. And believe us; they're all good boys.
Gollie--It's A Gollie!
Gollies inherit their cuteness from some of the most affectionate dog breeds: the Golden Retriever and the Collie. This lively, energetic designer breed came into the public eye within the last 20 years. Gollies are always fun--if you can keep an eye on them!
Beware: Gollies may "attack" strangers with many licks and nuzzles. Although they can act aloof at first, they make great companions for active families. Like their parents, they're heavy shedders.
Teddy Bear, Or Cockapoo?
Like other furry mixes, the Cockapoo stems from a Poodle, although their other parent is a Cocker Spaniel. This is one of the older breeds on the list, dating back to 1960. Depending on the mix, Cockapoos could either be large or small dogs.
These snuggly dogs have big personalities, with a zest for life that's hard to ignore. They learn tricks quickly and hardly shed any fur. Like a teddy bear, they'll cuddle with anyone.
Tiny And Mighty: The Golden Dox
Many people love Golden Retrievers. If you're a small dog person, would you like a tiny Golden Retriever? That's what you'll get with a Golden Dox, an adorable mix between a Golden Retriever and Dachshund.
Golden Doxes are less than two feet high and make playful family dogs. They combine the feisty attitude of the Dachshund with the gentle loyalty of the Retriever. This pooch might be stubborn in training, but they're naturally friendly and energetic.
No, This Isn't A Wolf. It's A Wolfdog
In 1955, the Czech Republic bred German Shepherds with a Carpathian wolf (yes, a wild wolf) and created the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog. This breed was originally trained to hunt, rescue, and search for the military. Now, they're the national dog of Czechoslovakia.
Czech Wolfdogs fulfill pet owners' dreams of taming a wolf. If you train these dogs well, they'll remain calm and clean. Fearless and suspicious, they make powerful guard dogs who enjoy strenuous exercise. Since they're independent, Czech Wolfdogs require strict training.
This Cotton Ball Is A Chineranian
Also called a Chim Pom or Pom Chin, a Chineranian combines a Japanese Chin with a Pomeranian. Some of these mixes look like fluffies Chins; others are straight-up cotton balls. However they appear, they're all low-energy cuddly dogs.
Chineranians have long fur that needs to be brushed daily and groomed often. But when it comes to exercise, they're low-maintenance. They're sensitive dogs who grow close to people and pets of all ages.
The French Pin, A Lap Bulldog
How cute is this pup? This is a French Pin, a mix between a Mini Pinscher and a French Bulldog. This mutt has the pinched face of a Bulldog with the big Pinscher ears, creating an adorable puppy face that most people haven't seen before.
This mix only developed in the past 20 years. Although the French Pin is low-maintenance, it can be spunky and a bit of a barker. They're great apartment dogs if you monitor them around children.
These Perky Ears Belong To A Taco Terrier
This tiny breed is as recent as the early 2000s. Taco Terriers get their name from their two parent breeds: Chihuahuas and Toy Fox Terriers. The "Taco" references the Chihuahua in Taco Bell commercials.
Despite being small, Taco Terriers have big personalities. These brave pups will defend their owners from anything. Since they love to smother their owners, Taco Terriers sometimes need firm training. They make amazingly affectionate lapdogs and exercise partners.
Chuskies Are The Ultimate Big Floof
If you want a medium-to-large fluffy dog, there's a mix out there for you. A Chusky combines two big furry breeds: the Siberian Husky and the Chow Chow. Although their coats require high maintenance, Chuskies are great dogs to have around children and other pets.
Because this breed inherits a loud-mouthed stubbornness from both parents, they need an experienced dog owner to handle. They're incredibly active and need plenty of room to play.
1,001 Dalcorgis
Dalcorgis, a mix between a Dalmatian and a Corgi, are so new that they're hard to find. If you do find one, you'll encounter a personality that's between amiable and obstinate. They're vivacious and bubbly, but also independent and sassy.
Dalcorgis vary in appearance, but like most Corgi mixes, they usually look like tiny Dalmatians. They're quite dynamic and keep their owners busy, especially since they prefer to play with people. Dalcorgis will definitely keep their owners laughing and happy!
Eskland's Snoot Is To Die For
Like many modern designer breeds, Esklands are bred to be family companions. These pups come from Shetland Sheepdog and American Eskimo parents. Depending on their parents, Esklands will vary in size, although they're usually medium dogs.
Esklands are smart pooches who need plenty of mental stimulation. While they can adapt to apartment living, they prefer a small yard. Like their parents, Esklands' big coats can heat them up in the summer, so make sure they stay cool.
Aussie Poms Are The Bomb
Although Aussie Poms aren't yet recognized by the American Kennel Club roster, this recent breed is becoming popular in Europe and the U.S. As their name implies, Aussie Poms merge Australian Shepherds and Pomeranians. These pups are amicable and very social.
The size of an Aussie Pom varies depending on their Shepherd parent, but most look like tiny Australian Shepherds with Pomeranian features. Since they don't like to be alone for long, make sure to give them plenty of pets!
Too Cute! It's The Jack-A-Poo!
If the name of this breed doesn't tickle your cute senses, its appearance will. The Jack-A-Poo combines the stout figure of a Jack Russell Terrier with the floof of a Miniature Poodle. Picture an incredibly fluffy Russell Terrier, and you have a Jack-A-Poo.
This new hybrid first arose in the 1990s. They come in a variety of colors, features, and fur thickness. But all Jack-A-Poo's cheerful and intelligence, even if they seem wary at first.
Oodles Of Saint Berdoodles
Saint Berdoodles have a face as adorable as their breed name. These Saint Bernard-Poodle mixes are giant fluffballs of joy. Because of their large size, Saint Berdoodles are often the center of attention--which they adore!
Maintenance of Saint Berdoodles depends on the coat they inherit. Generally, these pups want to spend as much time with people as possible. They're also very clever, so give them plenty of games to play.
The Bull-Boxer (No, Not The Shoe)
How cute are Bull-Boxers? No, not the shoe. The mix between a Pitbull and a Boxer. These mutts were developed in the 1990s and have since become a family favorite. Bull-Boxers love spending time with people and other dogs.
Brave and lively, Bull-Boxers make wonderful watchdogs if they're trained well. They require low maintenance other than their medium-to-high energy levels. During downtime, they're happy to lay quietly beside you.
How Can You Say No To This Miniature Bulldog?
A Miniature Bulldog, also called a Bull-Pug or Toy Bulldog, is a cross-breed between a Pug and an English Bulldog. These mutts tend to be a bit furrier than an average Pug and have the English Bulldog's precious droopy eyes.
Miniature Bulldogs are peaceful and dignified, ready to get along with just about anyone. Although some males become territorial, most Bull-Pugs end up overprotective. They can be difficult to train at first, but they learn quickly.
Rottadors Are Never A Bore
Rottadors, also called Labrotties, combine the strength of a Rottweiler with the loyalty of a Labrador. As a descendant of both a herding dog and a sporting dog, Rottadors cherish time with others. You'll often find them joining you wherever you are in your house.
As you may have guessed, Rottadors are active dogs. They're smart, confident people-pleasers who are protective while not being aggressive. And they look like extra fluffy Rottweilers! What's not to love?
Would You Have Guessed That A Maltipoo Is A Mix?
A Maltipoo is one of those mixes that doesn't look like a mutt, but its own breed. In reality, this dog stems from Poodles and Malteses. They bring in all the furriness of the poodle while remaining hypoallergenic with limited shedding.
Maltipoos have expressive eyes and an even more expressive personality. If you want a cuddly lapdog, this is the mix for you. They love to play outdoors, so give them plenty of walks!
Cheagle, The Cutest Tiny Dog Mix
Also called a Chi-Bea or Chibeagle, the Cheagle is a combination of a Beagle and a Chihuahua. Like other mixes on this list, the Cheagle is new and less well-known. But its adorable face is to die for.
The Cheagle is too small to follow the hunting footsteps of the Beagle. Because they're low-maintenance, they make great apartment companions. This one-foot-tall pup tends to be playful when they're socialized well.
Schnoodles Look Like A Beanie Baby
First introduced in the 1980s, a Schnoodle comes from Schnauzer and Poodle parents. Not only are they a furry bundle of joy, but Schnoodles are also flexible, easy-to-handle pups. They like big families and small families, yard or no yard. And they're hypoallergenic!
Schnoodles make great therapy dogs, but you might notice them favoring one person (a trait they adopted from Schnauzers). Although these designer dogs have varying types of fur, they usually require professional grooming.
Gotta Adore The Boxador
Guard dogs with puppy faces are a hard find, but there's one mutt that fits the bill. Boxador inherits the intelligence of a Boxer with the eager-to-please attitude of a Labrador Retriever. Although it's unknown when this mix came to be, it has recently grown in popularity.
As long as you train Boxadors well, they'll make perfect companion dogs. Like their parents, they require lots of exercise and moderate grooming, especially during shedding season.
It's A Labsky!
People are huge fans of Husky dogs. Another popular breed is the Labrador, so can you imagine when you put the two of them together? You don't have to wonder anymore, just look at this pup!
The eyes on this Labsky are out of this world. You can stare in them all day if you had the time. A weekend spent staring into this pup's eyes would be a weekend well spent in our opinion.
The Cuddly Bullmation
Wow, what would you do if you encountered one of these? We might have a slight heart attack thanks to all the cuteness on this crossbreed. Are you able to guess what kind it is?
We'll give you a hand, it's a Bullmation, so that makes it a Bulldog and a Dalmatian! Wow, that's an amazing combination and one we wish we could own for ourselves. Hopefully, we'll encounter one soon so we can pet it.
Would You Look At That!
It looks like a husky strikes again. This time, its mixed with one a beloved breed, the Golden Retriever. That's a whole lot of cuteness in one dog, how is that legal?
Yes, we're questioning the legality of this issue because it seems unfair how one person can own this and not share with everyone. The fur looks sensational. His or her eyes have a glare that make you want to pet it on the head.
The John Travolta Dog
Someone posted this picture and in came a flood of comments. One that stuck out is someone saying this breed looks like John Travolta! What do you think, can you see it?
By the way, this is a Pit Bull and a Husky crossbreed, something out of a dream. Back to the Travolta thing. In the actor's prime, he was one of Hollywood's finest. We'd like to say that's a fair comparison from that user.
What. A. DOG!
We might now be at a loss for words. Besides Corgi's being one of the cutest breeds to ever touch planet Earth, this dog looks even more adorable and it has to be thanks to the mix.
What you're looking at is a Gordie, a cross between a Corgi and a Golden Retriever. Stop the presses. Call your grandma. Do whatever you need to do contain your excitement. This is the next-level cuteness that the world needs.
A Wonderful Guide Dog
If you're in need of a guide dog, what better one to have than this one right here? His name is Recchi and he's a marvelous crossbreed that you've probably never seen.
Recchi is part Labrador and Bernese Mountain Dog. That can explain the flowing coat that shines as the light bounces off of it. Look at that smile on Recchi's face, he's a good boy if we've ever seen one. Someone get this pooch a trophy.
This Is Beautiful
Did your heart just skip a beat? That means you fell in love the moment you saw this crossbreed, much like what happened with us. This is amazing because it almost doesn't seem real.
What you're looking at is a mix of a Husky and a Corgi. Are you kidding us? That's like the best type of mixture one can get with a dog. It's fluffy, not too big, and probably has loads of energy.
A Fabulous Mix
Her name is Skye and do you know what kind of mix she is? Let's admire Skye for a moment before we tell you what she is. Look at those different colored eyes, wow.
That smile is something else too. We can't imagine how in love the owner is of this dog. Owning Skye would be like a dream come true. Skye is a Husky and Border Collie crossbreed. It makes sense why she's so precious.
This Dog Know's He's Stunning
A dog that can pose for a photo, is a good boy. Look at this setup. It must be some type of holiday portrait judging by the tree ornaments on the floor.
Regardless of whats going on, we're in love. This is a Great Pyrenees and a Malamute Mix. We'd never thought we see a crossbreed like this in our lives, but we're sure glad we did. This just made our days and then some.
A Frug!!
Adorable isn't the word. Graceful might be closer, but still not enough. There might not be a correct word to describe this masterpiece of a crossbreed. Take a moment and admire the look she's giving.
This is a mix of a French Bulldog and a Pug. Pugs have never been so precious. If this was the only dog breed on Earth, we'd be completely fine with that. Who wouldn't want this little one trotting around their home?
The Corgipoo!
There couldn't have been a more fitting name for this crossbreed. It's insane how adorable this little one is. It doesn't even make sense that this even exists on the planet.
What you're looking at is a Toy Poodle and a Corgi and all it's glory. Whoever is lucky enough to own this doggo must have a happy life. There isn't much that can compare to what we're looking at right now, we'll tell you that much.
What Are Our Eyes Looking At?
A kind enough lady posted this picture, explaining how her boyfriend just got this new puppy. First of all, now she has a little pup to take care of when she isn't taking care of her boyfriend.
Second of all, what better pooch to come home to than this. It's a Yorkshire Terrier and a poodle all in one. That's not something you can for granted. Not everyone is this lucky to have a combination of that caliber.
Her Name Is Berta!
Berta might've just stolen the show. Berta is what you get when you mix a Scotch Terrier and a Schnauzer. Does that make her Berta the Scauzer? We don't know but she's precious.
Look at those ears stand up! Look at that nose and her eyes. If you aren't in awe like us then you might not be human or possess feelings. This is one of the cutest dogs to ever exists in out books.
Anything Corgi Is A Gift
Once again, a Corgi crossbreed strikes and brings love to our hearts. This time, the Corgi mixed itself with a classic and well-loved breed. Can you see what it is?
This is the immaculate result of combining a German Shepherd and a Corgi! Those are two of the most beloved pooches on the planet and you can correct us if we're wrong. After one look at this little one, we want a whole house of them.
The Choco Lab Pit
With a stigma of Pit Bulls being aggressive and dangerous dogs, what better way to get rid of that notion, then by adding some chocolate? Are we right or are we right?
This is a Chocolate Lab and Pit Bull mix, and a lovely one at that. It looks like she's smiling, and even if she's not, she looks like a good dog. One that will play fetch with you until the sun falls down.
Rottweilers Have Been Used For Cattle, Military, and Police
Rottweilers may be notorious for their protectiveness, but that's just because of their long history as a professional working dog. According to Pet Health Network, Rottweilers were first brought to Germany by the ancient Romans.
They were used as herding dogs until the cattle car was invented. Once people stopped breeding them for their farms, Rottweilers almost went extinct. Thankfully, police and military saw the intelligence in this dog breed and took them on, keeping the population alive.
Doberman Pinschers Were Bred To Protect The Taxman
Speaking of protective police dogs, the Doberman ranks amongst the highest on the list of intelligent dog breeds. In fact, the Doberman was bred specifically in order to protect taxman and dog breeder Louis Dobermann, hence the name.
The American Kennel Club says in 19th Century Germany the "Tax Collector's Dog" was bred from the Black and Tan Terrier, German Pinscher, and Rottweiler. No wonder the dog has an international reputation with the military.
Shetland Sheepdogs Dominate The Competition
Shetland Sheepdogs may be smaller than their Border Collie cousins but they are just as smart. These eager dogs excel in international dog shows where they dominate in obedience, agility, and herding trials.
They also make for excellent watchdogs due to their cautiousness around strangers and their propensity for barking. Despite these disciplined traits, they can be affectionate when the time calls for it and make awesome family dogs due to their sensitive nature.
Golden Retrievers Are Very Trainable Dogs
The Golden Retriever is known as a loyal, life companion. Their gentle temperament may not make for the ideal guard dog but it does help them excel as service dogs for the disabled.
Retrievers have been trained to assist the deaf, blind, hunters, and search and rescue teams. They were originally bred to be a medium-sized bird dog in 1850. Today, according to CBS News, the dog also ranks third in the most popular dog breeds in the US.
Labrador Retrievers Have An Excellent Sense of Smell
The Labrador is an excellent communicator, and can oftentimes assist not only the blind and deaf but those with special needs in getting through the day. Reuters notes that in 2018 they maintained the number 1 breed in the US for the 28th year in a row.
The breed is highly intelligent and has incredible focus if they're motivated to a task. They’re an ideal breed to become a search and rescue dog and to work as a therapy dog.
Dingoes Are Their Own Kind Of Animal
According to Smithsonian, the long-standing notion that Dingoes descend from an East Asian variation of the grey wolf is incorrect. In a new study, Dingoes were found to have anatomical features that separate them from wolves and dogs.
Distinguishing Dingoes from dogs is vital in order to understand their behavior. Unlike most domesticated hounds, these animals require aggressive training. In certain areas, a permit is even required to own the challenging pet.
Poodles Are Surprisingly Good Swimmers
Poodles are well known for being smart. Studies have shown that poodles receive their best scores on memory and obedience, making them overtly responsive to commands.
A lesser-known fact about poodles is that their famous curly coat is liquid-resistant, keeping them dry in wet conditions. In fact, poodles historically love the water and are excellent swimmers, also largely due to their webbed feet. Their athleticism coupled with their intelligence makes them excellent dogs to train.
German Shepherds Are Basically Born To Be Police Officers
While several dogs breeds respond to training, the precision of the German Shepherd makes this breed top dog. German Shepherds can perform tasks after being shown only a handful of times and have a sense of smell that can detect even the smallest differentiation.
Beyond their intelligence, experts also attribute these dogs with a defining amount of courage, confidence, and loyalty, all of which any officer requires. They're also excellent at patrolling, tracking down criminals and detecting when a hostage is being held.
Australian Shepherds Are Obedient, If They're Challenged
Ironic to the name, the Australian Shepherd actually began their herding career in Europe, where they were called the Pyrenean Shepherd. It was in Australia that herders bred the shepherds with Collies and Border Collies amongst other canines.
Once the dogs migrated to California from Australia, ranchers adopted their new name. True to their roots, these dogs will corral anything, even children, and require challenges to their stamina and learning in order to maintain obedience.
Saint Bernards Rescue Those in Need in Harsh Conditions
The Sandlot made this dog a beast not to be reckoned with. Despite their size, these dogs actually aren't aggressive at all. They were bred in Switzerland as mountain dogs and are incredibly sweet with humans.
As workers, these dogs were able to find and rescue travelers who had been swallowed by avalanches, greeting them with their big, happy expressions. Though they are said to have carried casks of brandy, this is a myth.
A Great Dane Is Basically A Giant Lap Dog
The Great Dane may be large, but they're able to adapt to smaller spaces. This is largely due to their tendency to lean, sit, and plop onto the couch and their owners. Their laziness as compared to other dogs is part of what makes them so patient and friendly.
Pictured above is Teddy Keystone, a Great Dane and the first canine superstar in America. On set, the holds child actor Jackie Lucas while he golfs in the water.
Collies Are Great Working Dogs
Anyone who has ever seen the movie Lassie actually has relatively good knowledge of how these animals operate. Highly intelligent, obedient, and high in stamina, Collies are highly motivated, only requiring some gentle training.
Collies can be trained to herd cattle, sheep, and other livestock, oftentimes, they prefer it! This is not a breed of dog that enjoys lying around lazy. Like Retrievers, these dogs are loyal and friendly, making them ideal candidates for family dogs.
Pembroke Welsh Corgi: A Dog Fit For A Queen
The look of surprise on this Corgi's face could be that it just realized its owner is the queen. High-status dogs are nothing new, and this one happens to be royalty sitting next to Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen has owned more than 30 corgis in her reign, making this breed a near necessity in the royal kingdom.
These alert dogs with intimidating barks make for excellent watchdogs. They are loyal to their owner until the end.
Border Collies Love To Perform
The Border Collie is kind of like a Collie that's stuck on fast-forward. Agile and quick-minded, these dogs win prizes at sheepdog trials and dog sports like no other breed. This breed is especially talented at taking specific commands.
Developed in Scottland, this pooch was mostly used for herding sheep. These dogs are affectionate and happy to cuddle with their owners, but they don’t do well with a sedentary lifestyle.
Bearded Collies Are The Grandpas Of The Dog Family
The Bearded Collie looks like an old man for a reason– they are tough, reliable, and independent thinkers. More like a fun grandpa, these dogs are energetic and love to socialize with kids. They are also notorious goofballs, and in order to keep them focused, you have to match their level of interest.
Illustrated in paintings from the 1700s, the Bearded Collie was a prized member of high society and these dogs have the intelligence to match.
The Old English Sheepdog
The Old English Sheepdog looks like no other breed. These furry dogs are known for their long, thick, shaggy grey and white coat that is in constant need of taming. Also known as the "Bearded Collie" this dog was mainly a show dog owned by the wealthiest American families in the early 20th century.
They enjoy working on a farm in a rural setting and have high marks for obedience, flyball, tracking, and herding.
The Irish Setter Is A Kid At Heart
Dr. Seuss was more than an inspirational children's book author, he was an Irish Setter lover. The American Kennel Club calls these elegant animals big kids at heart, which definitely explains why Dr. Seuss would have one as his companion. Known for its beauty and grace, these dogs are swift chasers and affectionate snugglers.
However, they’re also very talented gundogs, a perfect companion for hunters looking for a dog to retrieve their ducks and other birds.
The English Springer Spaniel Has A Split Personality
This loyal and affectionate dog is the mellow snuggle companion you've always dreamed of. On the flip side, these animals are born hunters, sharp as a whip and highly trainable. The American Kennel Club notes that they are miserable when alone and crave the company of dogs and people.
This picture shows an English Springer Spaniel working with a military officer to see if there are any items or people in the car that don’t belong.
The Fast and The Furious Jack Russell Terrier
In this photograph, a hunter releases his Jack Russell into a hole to find the badger he hopes to hunt. This pup knows to locate the badger, corner it, then run back as an indication to the owner where his prey is.
Jack Russell Terriers are little balls of energy just bursting to be used in a productive way. Badgers are a walk in the park for these fast and fearless fox hunters.
Alaskan Malamutes Are Horses Of The Snow
These dog's body composition is perfect for physically-exhaustive work in the snow: weatherproof fur, powerful chest, and shoulders, heavy bones. Not only are they perfect sled dogs because of their strength, but also their mentality. These dogs thrive in a pack, and that leader better be you.
Malamutes may own you if you don’t own them, but they’re also big teddy bears. They know their strength and are gentle and safe with kids.
Akita Inus Detect Stranger Danger
These Japanese dogs are wired to protect the ones they love. Their deep and dark eyes may look forgiving, but these dogs are always on alert when it comes to strangers. Though they may be slow to trust, once you've established yourself as family these dogs will reveal their soft side.
Similar in composition to the Malamute, Akita Inus are massive and heavy balls of fluff that will be your knight in shining armor when necessary.
You'll Need To Keep Your German Shorthaired Pointer Busy!
This sporting dog breed is an extremely smart hunter and retriever. German Shorthaired Pointers are friendly and affectionate, making them terrific family companions. Despite this, they can also be independent-minded and tend to want to roam off on their own at times!
Like most intelligent dogs, German Shorthaired Pointers need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. They also keep a puppy level of energy throughout their entire lives, so do best with humans who are active and can keep up.
Bernese Mountain Dogs Are Excellent Family Pets
Here's another large breed with above-average intelligence. Although some people perceive Bernese Mountain Dogs to be slow or dim-witted because of their size and lumbering way of getting around, that is not the case. "Berners," as they’re called by fans, can grow to weigh around 100 pounds!
This is a great working breed that excels at herding. They have calm, mellow temperaments and get along with strangers and other animals.
Weimaraners Are Known As "The Dogs With The Human Brains"
Weimaraners are German pups that were bred to hunt in the Black Forest. They're incredibly smart and quick to learn. The breed’s intelligence has led to the nickname "the dog with the human brain."
They’re also quite unique looking and tend to attract attention. This medium breed is known for its friendly, charming personality in addition to its intelligence. Weimaraners are excellent family dogs and even tolerate cats at times (although not usually, since they were bred for the hunt).
Alaskan Malamutes Love Children
This is one of the oldest dog breeds around. These giant fluffballs were bred to pull sleds in the harsh climate of Alaska. They're super smart and love having a job to do. Although young pups are pretty small, they can grow to weigh up to 100 pounds. They’re social and loving animals that enjoy meeting all kinds of strangers.
Fun fact: George Lucas’ Alaskan Malamute inspired the character Chewbacca from the Star Wars movie franchise!
Chesapeake Bay Retrievers Are Still Used In The Area They Were Originally Bred
These adorable pups are Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. They were bred in the 19th century to help retrieve waterfowl for hunters. This is one of the only true American dog breeds, and they're still widely used in the Chesapeake Bay area during hunting season.
Like other smart dogs, these pups can be a bit stubborn when they’re given a command they don’t feel like obeying. But they’re great companions and excellent family pets.
American Leopard Hounds Can Avoid Injury
American Leopard Hounds are known for their intelligence. These all-purpose tree dogs were bred with an innate desire to please their masters, which is why they are easy to train and can learn a lot. When it comes to sport, these dogs are excellent at avoiding injuries and will fiercely protect children.
Treats are essential to training these dogs but must be used sparingly because American Leopard Hounds are more prone to becoming overweight.
