The Trials And Tribulations Of Foster Care: A Simple Story Of Love And Triumph

It’s not easy becoming a foster care family and Heather Nelson and her husband can attest to that fact. The couple started acting as foster parents in 2013 and soon after adopted a brother and sister who had been taken from their biological family by the state.

Soon after the adoption of the adorable siblings, the family posted a series of photos and story to Facebook.

It’s a simple story but it rather perfectly documents the kid’s journey to their final destination in the Nelson’s loving arms.

There are tens of thousands of children in need of a loving home throughout the United States — this is just one of those stories.

“As foster parents our lives are dissected and put on public display for all to see. We often hear phrases such as ‘I could never do that’ or ‘I would never let those kids in my home’ or ‘I can’t deal with the broken system.’

My reply is this: Look at the pure joy on these kids faces when they are hearing their new adoptive name being declared in the courtroom.

They came to live with us on Dec 10th, 2013 and as of Oct 19th, 2016 they are no longer foster children. They are known and loved by their birth family and they are a part of our forever family.

They will never have to choose between families. The joy and love reflected in these pictures are all I need to know: every tear, every sleepless night, and every day that the system seemed hopeless was worth it.”

This brother and sister could have easily been split up by a sometimes broken government system — instead, they now have a forever home with a loving mom and dad and some new brothers. When done right the foster care system can be a really remarkable thing.
