St. Baldrick’s is an organization that raises money for childhood cancer. They hold nationwide events where people shave their heads in support of the organization, hence the name “Baldrick.” The woman pictured here is Janet Pollock who has shaved her head twice with the organization since 2011 and has participated in many other events. Janet has done so in honor of her son Luke who succumbed to childhood cancer.

Luke was diagnosed with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), a rare brain tumor that is located in the brain stem and is considered one of the deadliest forms of cancer. Luke passed away in 2009. His mom says that he had a love of all things Christmas and even enjoyed gifting other children with toys. Janet has even since taken her work to Washington where she spoke to legislators about the STAR Act, which advocates for childhood cancer research.
