In 2012, Theo was diagnosed with an illness called myelodysplastic syndrome. This syndrome is caused by blood cells that have not been former or don’t work properly. Usually, it is also a result of faulty bone marrow. It’s is treated with a vigorous forms of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Theo was the 13th child to receive a bone marrow transplant at the Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center. He was able to receive his transplant from a stranger who donated out of the kindness of their heart.

After a lengthy hospital stay, Theo was delighted to find out that his immune markers were normal. The transplant was a success! In 2016, he celebrated his fourth-year post-transplant anniversary. As a 16-year-old he was even able to begin college classes early and also now serves as an ambassador for Kids Beating Cancer! Wow!
