When Wesley was 12 years old, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML is one of the most common cancers in children. This cancer occurs when the bone marrow produces an abnormal amount of blood cells. The treatment path is typically quite rigorous and involves chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Wesley endured both and was lucky to have a sister who was a bone marrow match. After receiving a transplant from her, Wesley was on his way to a cancer-free life.

As Wesley moved on to both middle and high school he often gave speeches about his life story. He also took on various charitable endeavors like public service announcements and leading fundraising activities for the American Cancer Society. Wesley serves as an ambassador for Kids Beating Cancer. He is now an adult and graduated from Harvard University. He now works in Washington D.C., where he will undoubtedly continue succeeding in his extraordinary life.
