Remember when the amazing children’s show Reading Rainbow encouraged children to “take a look inside a book” and find a Reading Rainbow? That adventure ended in 2006, but not without plenty of disappointment from parents who fell in love with the shows simple, yet incredibly effective message for children.
Now, thanks to the efforts of the show’s host and Star Trek legend LeVar Burton, the Reading Rainbow may be returning, but this time to our iPads and other web-enabled devices.
Realizing that children these days have new technologies, LeVar and his capable team set out two years ago to recreate the show for the digital age. Since going live they have shared more than 13 million views with hundreds of thousands of users.
Now, the team wants to extend the Reading Rainbow family, by creating a web-enabled version for the home, along with a classroom version that provides supplemental materials that teachers can use to teach their children. LeVar Burton and his team also hope to subsidize the cost of materials for many schools that are in need of teaching materials, but lack the funding to help their students.
This morning I viewed their Kickstarter page and I was impressed to see more than $400,000 raised with 34 days to go in the campaign. I was ECSTATIC to then witness more than $738,000 raised only 2 hours later.
Check out the Kickstarter page and give our post some social love so your friends can learn about the all-new Reading Rainbow, and maybe even donate to an amazing cause.
