When you’re a kid it can be hard to convince your parents to buy you a puppy or even a fully grown and trained dog — Especially if they are not necessarily dog people.
14-year-old Matt from Adelaide, Australia, managed to convince his parents that instead of a dog, they should get him an alpaca.
Apparently alpaca’s like to go for walks just like dogs.
Matt told Today that his parents figured an alpaca would be a better option for their family. They tend to live longer, 20 to 25 years, and they are surprisingly low maintenance.
Just like dogs they love to show affection.
This alpaca even gets along with other pets.
They named him Chewy. I bet you can guess why.
One of Chewy’s favorite activities is trips to the beach.
Matt says his Alpaca is a friendly pet that people love once they meet them. He says they can get bad raps because their “cousins” the Llama are often mean.
He told Buzzfeed that Chewy takes way less maintenance than a dog. He always does his business in the same spot, and doesn’t require much attention.
Parents not willing to buy you a dog? Perhaps an alpaca is in your future. Just show them this story.
