Edi Okoro was ready to ask his girlfriend Cally Read for her hand in marriage. The question was, how was he going to pop the ultimate question? Finally, he came up with a brilliant plan.
He was going to pull out the ring in various situations, only asking Cally once he got caught. But was she ever going to notice?
Edi And Cally Have Been Together For Years
Edi and Cally had been together for years, and he was finally ready to ask her for her hand in marriage. Witty, creative, and full of spontaneous ideas, Edi wasn't one to just ask his girlfriend outright. That was too boring!
He wanted to do something special. The question was, what?
Edi's A Huge Improv Man
While some people plan out how they're going to ask their significant other to marry them, that wasn't really Edi's style. He was more of a "improvise as I go" type of guy.
On a social media post, Edi even wrote, "'Edi doesn't plan’ …. I’m a spontaneous improviser!" And his plan definitely shows just how much he doesn't plan.
The Ring Was Already Purchased
He was stuck. Edi had already purchased the ring a while back but had no idea how he was actually going to ask Cally.
Speaking to his friends and family, Edi said, "Basically, I had no idea how I was going to propose to Cal. So, I remember sitting on the sofa thinking, 'what can I do?'"
Plan A: Hide The Ring In Plain Sight
After sitting on the couch and thinking it over, Edi finally came up with the perfect plan. He was going to hide the ring in plain sight -- right on her jewelry tray among all of her other rings.
He would just have to wait for her to notice the diamond ring.
Plan A Didn't Go As Planned
Edi was so excited for Cally to notice the engagement ring. But something happened that he didn't plan for, she never noticed it sitting on the tray! Two whole days passed, and the diamond ring was still sitting in the same spot Edi placed it.
Now, what was he going to do?
Planning A Dinner Or Vacation Wasn't Going To Cut It
Cally knows that Edi is spontaneous and doesn't exactly plan things out. So, making plans for dinner or vacation would have tipped her off. He was going to have to figure something else out.
And that's when inspiration hit him. He was going to take quirky pictures of Cally with the ring. Only, she'll never know about it!
Plan B: Document The Whole "Proposal"
Edi finally came up with an idea that was as fun and quirky as him. He was going to document the whole proposal! He'd take pictures of himself with the ring in everyday situations, always with Cally in the frame, and see if she ever notices.
If she did, that's when he'd pop the question! It was perfect.
Cally Was Expecting A Proposal
On a social media post, Edi wrote, "So that was the idea, I was to propose to Cal when she caught me or when the moment felt right." But he had to keep one tiny thing in mind.
Since they'd been together for so long, Cally was kind of expecting a proposal. He was going to have to be crafty.
First, He Began Documenting Her Asleep
Edi began to carry the ring in his pocket everywhere he went, just in case an opportunity to "propose" presented itself. At first, he began taking pictures of the ring and Cally while she was asleep in bed.
But it wasn't challenging enough. Edi wanted to up his game and document other aspects of their life together.
Plan B Was Beginning To Become Fun
Edi began taking pictures of them at the hardware store, going out on bike rides, and even doing laundry. All of them included him, either holding the ring or placing it just out of Cally's eyesight.
He was getting a good laugh out of the experience since Cally was expecting a proposal but had no clue when, where, or how it was going to happen.
The Actual Proposal Was Up In The Air
Ironically, Edi didn't exactly know when he was going to propose either. This entire exercise was based on if Cally noticed him with the ring while he was taking pictures.
It was really all up in the air. The thing is, he was having a whole lot of fun with his little game.
Edi Wanted To Propose But He Also Wanted A Lot Of Pictures
Edi was ready to up the challenge, wanting Cally to catch him so he could ask her to marry him. But, he also wanted as many pictures as possible.
On a social media page, Edi wrote, "This escalated quickly into trying to get as many photos of Cally with the ring without her knowing!"
Edi Didn't Think Cally Was Ever Going To Notice
Soon, Edi had quite a collection of photos. He explained on a social media post that "The idea was to take as many photos, in more daring scenarios, until I found the perfect moment to propose, or until I got caught, at which point I would propose!"
But one question remained: was she ever going to notice?
Weeks Went By
Edi had literally been taking pictures for weeks, and Cally had yet to catch on to his little game. He was beginning to think she was never going to notice. So, he was going to have to step things up once again.
He was going to come up with the ultimate moment.
Ultimate Plan B: Place Ring On Her Palm While She's Asleep
Edi's ultimate plan was to snap the perfect photo but have the ring somewhere she'd notice. He decided to place the ring on Cally's open palm while she was asleep. It was genius.
He'd take a quick picture to document it, and Cally would feel the weight on her palm and notice the ring.
She Didn't Notice The Ring
Cally was so deep asleep that she didn't notice Edi place it on her palm! At this point, Edi was really out of ideas. It seemed as though Cally was never going to notice!
So, it was time for Plan C. Edi decided to get down on one knee at the beach.
It Was Time To Show People The Photos
After all of that time, Cally and Edi were finally engaged. Now, it was time to let her in on his little secret -- that he'd been proposing to her for weeks, and she never noticed!
So, Edi invited all of their friends and family over, wanting to show everyone his grand Plan B.
Everyone Agreed, The Photos Were Hilarious
Everyone gathered around to hear Edi's story and how his Plan B didn't exactly work out as planned, but, in a way, it was worth it in the end. He did get a collection of hilarious pictures, after all.
And he wasn't the only one who thought the story and photos were funny. Everyone, including Cally, was laughing during Edi's presentation.
Cally Never Caught On...Or Did She?
Their friends and family thought Edi's Plan B was hilarious, spontaneous, and so very much like Edi that it was amazing. Cally never caught on to his antics. Interestingly enough, during the whole process, Edi thought the same thing.
Was she faking it and actually knew what he was doing the entire time?
Nope, Cally Had No Clue What Edi Was Doing
The truth was, Cally had no idea what Edi was doing! She was literally in the dark for all of those weeks. She couldn't believe any of it. But, he had documented proof that he'd been trying to propose to her for weeks.
Now, this is a proposal worth talking about!
