Elephant Jungle Sanctuary in Thailand is dedicated to giving elephants the care, freedom, and happiness they deserve in the wake of consisted poaching, overworking and abuse. The sanctuary, which was founded in 2014, also takes an ethically responsible approach to eco-tourism (i.e. you can visit the gentle giants in a way that won’t be stressful for them).
Elephants have been historically abused in Thailand. Though they’re not built to carry weight on their back, they’re notoriously made to work long hours carrying people in the heat. They’re used in circuses and other entertainment, where they’re forced to perform without nearly enough food and rest. This can drastically shorten the lifespan of elephants, which is why Elephant Jungle Sanctuary’s ethical approach to eco-tourism is so important.
