A sweet kitten was rescued from a PVC pipe storm drain after being stuck for more than a day.
The kitten, aptly named Piper, was first discovered by customers in the parking lot of a Costco warehouse in Fontana, California.
He was heard crying for help in a storm drain, but no one could see him.
The rescue effort began with the help of David Loop and his team on a Sunday afternoon. The California resident and his team at Sierra Pacific Furbabies are known for their work in the area to rescue, rehab, and rehome stray pets. Unfortunately, the team of rescuers couldn’t coax the kitten to safety.
The next day, All American Plumbing came to the rescue along with a band of animal rescuers. The company used cameras, snakes, and other equipment to find where the kitten was trapped and the first image of Piper had the rescue crews falling in love.
Piper the kitten stuck in a storm drain was supported by animal lovers all across the United States and even the world. Operation Kitten Rescue, as it was called, had a happy ending with Piper’s removal from the storm drain around 10:30 the next evening.
Despite his ordeal and how scared he was, the tiny kitten was incredibly affectionate with rescuers and didn’t seem afraid of them. He even purred for one of the rescuers and headbutted her hand for more attention.
Since the rescue, David Loop has posted several photos on Facebook of the tiger kitten in his new home. Loop also posted a video of the rescue, showing Piper sleeping in his arms like a baby.
Loop also posted selfies with Piper on his shoulder.
Despite the outpouring of people offering to adopt Piper, we’re betting the kitten rescued from a storm drain will stay right where he is and be a Loop baby for life.
