The Air Umbrella from designer Chuan Wang is the product we always wanted, but didn’t know would ever be invented. The ‘invisible’ umbrella features a handle which powers jet propelled airflow through the use of a fan system, in order to propel rain away from our head and body.
Developed by designers in China, the Air Umbrella has its own Kickstarter campaign with the goal of delivering the umbrellas before the end of Q4 2015.
The campaign, which aims to raise $10,000, has already gained support from 79 backers who have contributed $8201.
The glow around the model showcases the umbrellas protection radius. The design is simple and lightweight.
The Air Umbrella features a battery that will work for 30 minutes on a single charge, with a three year life cycle.
The device is definitely more bulky than a regular umbrella, but I have a feeling technology friendly buyers will love the chance to play with such a neat little piece of gadgetry improvement.
We don’t know the final sales price at the time of mass production, but the gadget was selling to a select handful of backers on Kickstarter for $88. That offer has been fully backed, but other higher end models are available for an additional cost.
