An internet user recently took to Twitter to share her disbelief with what an owl looks like without its feathers. It turns out the majestic hunters of the night are rather creepy looking when their beatiful fur is stripped away and we are left looking at their rather skeletal looking bodies.
That got us to thinking, what other animals look a bit surreal and even spooky when their fur or feathers are removed from the equation.
Let’s start out with our owl friend and then examine bears, bunnies, and hedgehogs, among other animals that don’t look so cute and cuddle when their outer shell is removed.

This is a bit more friendly.

A Spectacled Bear missing some of their fur.
Raccoon versus hairless Raccoon.
Raccoons can sometimes develop parasitic infestations that cause them to lose their fur. This Racoon suffered from a fungal infection that consequently cause their hair to fall out. Not so cute and cuddly looking.
A funny looking hairless Hedgehog
Betty is a bald hedgehog who is looked after by the Foxy Lodge Rescue Centre in the UK. Researchers don’t know why she lost her fur but she is living out a happy life without her species’ typical exterior.
This is much better!
A Parrot without its feathers
This is another example of a bird that lost its feathers and came out looking a lot different than we would anticipate. The parrots head looks about the same but its wings are vastly different.
That’s more like it.
Rabbit with no fur.
This bunny became an internet sensation in 2009. The rabbit was born without any hair and remained in that state until they were three months old. Eventually, the rabbit maintained a regular coat.
So much more cute this way!

A hairless Penguin
This penguin was born without feathers in an aquarium in China’s Liaoning Province. The poor little guy was quickly rejected by his parents. Aquarium workers decided that the penguin’s lack of feathers and generally weak condition was down to problems digesting food and absorbing nutrition. Workers nursed him back to health and he eventually grew a healthy coat and was reunited with his family.
The penguins we know and love.
Where is this Chimpanzee’s hair?
Chimpanzees are much like their human counterparts in the sense that they can sometimes suffer from alopecia.
This is much less unsettling.
Despite their lack of fur or feather’s these animals are still adorable in their own right. Remember the next time that you are looking at a creature that they likely look very different when their exterior is stripped away.
