Dogs love to get into trouble but unfortunately for them, there isn't a very strong "poker face" game going on when they get caught. Whether it's messing with the cat, tearing apart your favorite pair of shoes, or just getting into general mischief, it's hard to stay mad at them when they look so darn cute when caught.
We combed the internet for some of the funniest "caught in the act" moments from dogs and they don't disappoint. Check out our favorites and try not to laugh.
The Look Of Pure Guilt
A dog's face can very easily give away their guilt. It doesn't help when they are standing directly in front of the mess they just created. But admit it, you stay mad for about 10 seconds and then you have to laugh at the situation standing before you.
This pupper knows what he did, but he's not about to admit it! That's the classic, "wasn't me!" look. Unfortunately, he's not selling it very well and clearly, "did it."
It's All His Fault!
The dog in the background has no problem ratting out his buddy. There is just not a lot of hiding the emotions of dogs. Now comes the real question — who was actually guilty of this mess? At least one of these dogs at least looks more guilty.
This is usually what happens with brothers. The one in the back did nothing, but he did encourage his brother to make a mess. It's not his fault his brother listened!
AHHH, Caught!
Yet another example of a dog being caught in the act and allowing their startled emotions to shine through. They even have the evidence right in front of them so there is no hiding from what they have done.
The thing is, this doggo probably knew he was going to get in trouble, but tearing up the bag and everything inside was just too tempting! Now he just has to find a way to live with the consequences.
I Have No Idea How This Happened!
This dog looks like they genuinely didn't mean to get caught in the blinds. Regardless of their intent, they are now caught in the act and unable to deny what they have done. Furniture 1, dog zero.
The worst part about this is it looks like it happened in the middle of the night. The dog's owner probably thought someone was breaking into the house. Honestly, seeing it was just the dog was probably a relief!
Wanna Play Soccer?
Body hunched over, ears back and big wide eyes fully open? This is a tell-tale sign of doggy guilt. But how can you possibly be mad at this adorable little cutie? He just wanted to play a little soccer.
Time to buy a dog proof ball and head to the park. Get this good boi enough exercise and he'll fall asleep instead of destroying your athletic equipment. The choice is yours!
I'm Naturally Fluffy, But Not THIS Fluffy!
Even if this dog wasn't caught in the act, there was no way all of those down feathers were going to magically disappear from their fur, the couch, and presumably the entire living room. At the same time, this pup doesn't seem too upset about being caught.
They either destroyed a pillow or finally caught that pesky bird who snuck its way into the house. There is also no guilt here, just happiness. Go ahead and yell, this dog just doesn't care.
I'm Just Going For A Ride
How can you not laugh when you see a dog riding another dog. It doesn't hurt that this adorable puppy somehow managed to turn his dog friend into a horse. At least the bigger dog doesn't seem to mind these antics.
How did this even happy though? These dogs had to be posed like this, right? There's no way one just casually jumped on the other's back. However it happened, we're happy it did.
Hanging Out In Chaos
This adorable dog may look guilty but notice how he didn't bother to leave the scene of the wreckage he "may" have created. He just stares back at you with those adorable puppy eyes and allows evolution to take care of making us feel sorry for them.
Maybe this dog's owner needed to buy new furniture anyways. You can be mad at this dog, or you can thank him for speeding up the process of buying new things.
If I Lie Down Flat You Won't Notice What I Did
Another example of a dog's inability to hide properly. In their defense, if this dog was a darker shade of brown they might have just blended in with the hardwood floor. Also, toilet paper is fun. True fact.
Sometimes just accepting fate is the only thing a dog can do. He destroyed the toilet paper, now he's gone full guilt mode. If he could sink into the floor he literally would. He just feels that bad.
What Did You Do?
It looks like this dog managed to break open a giant sack of coffee beans. If that's the case their owner was probably in for a very long night of hyper-puppy time.
What's worse, is now that pupper is caffeinated up, there's nothing left to keep its owner awake. It's going to be a long sleepless night. By the morning this pup will be fast asleep and its owner will be struggling to function at work.
A Trail Of Guilt
The trail of trouble is all over the house and the look of guilt is covering this puppy's face. It's amazing how something so adorable can create such havoc and try to melt our hearts with that look!
Just don't get too mad. Look how young is doggo is! He didn't know any better. As he gets older he'll learn to have more respect for things. Or at least run away from the evidence so he can't get caught red pawed!
I Was Really Hungry
One tiny puppy + one giant bag of dog food apparently equals a huge mess. When it comes to getting into bags of yummy treats we know that dogs will stop at nothing, even if they are super tiny and look adorably innocent.
This is why you should always keep the dog treats behind locked doors. Dogs will do anything for food, even breaking into the bag when no one is looking! This good boi is definitely full... of guilt!
Dog + Cat = Sibling Rivalry
When you have a cat and dog living together there is a very good chance that some type of rivalry will ensue. Thankfully these two friends were just having a playful time together and not attempting to eat each other.
The cat looks like it's over the fun and games though. You showed up at the perfect time, "can you get the dog off of me now, I'm supposed to be taking a nap right now." As for the dog, he still wants to play.
There Were Only 8, I Promise
This dog was hoping that their owners are really bad at counting. The food laying across the counter probably wasn't the best way to keep their secret. Someone isn't getting a muffin.
The irony here is that the dog was going to get a muffin anyways. But now that he has shown the inability to be patient, he won't be getting another one. You live, you learn, you sneak muffins, and you pay the price.
Guilty Before The Act Was Discovered
Want to know if your dog has done something wrong? Just look at them? Perhaps it's because they don't want to get in trouble or maybe they really just don't like to see you mad, upset, or sad because of their actions.
In the end it's all kind of adorable in its own "bad dog" type of way. With the look on his face, though, how can you stay mad. That is just impossible.
Can You Spot The Guilty One?
The dog on the right is really guilty. Okay maybe not, perhaps they just really don't like having their photo taken or maybe it's a genetic condition. Either way it's super silly and that makes us happy.
The dog on the right definitely is guilty of something. You don't know what he did yet, but you will soon. Just maybe don't go into your closet for a while, that would be recommended.
The Cone Of Shame
Dogs don't like to wear "the cone of shame" from the vets office but this poor guy created his own. He's at least wearing his "badge of honor" with pride. Oops.
The real question is, what was in the trash can that he wanted so badly? There must have been some delicious scrap of leftover food he just couldn't say no to. As punishment, he'll just have to wear that can for a while.
Just Checking If I'm In Trouble
Hey owner I just wanted to see if you noticed what I did. I'm going to patiently wait out here and give you the "I did something wrong" look until you acknowledge my behavior. So did you find what I did yet?
We have to know what this dog did! That's a great pre-emptive look. Our best guess is that he was waiting to go for a walk but just couldn't wait long enough. Oops!
Mmmph... Mmmppp... Mmm..
It looks like someone isn't going to be enjoying the lunch they made — but it won't be this dog. This is what happens when a dog realizes they can reach the countertop and help themselves to a delicious snack.
Sandwiches are a universal food, so you can't be too mad at this good boi. Plus, it doesn't look like a very exciting sammie anyways. Treat yourself to something nicer, you've earned it.
Two Guilty Parties
When you get in big trouble for something or you think trouble is coming your way, team up with a partner for a double dose of doggy guilt. These two work together really well and it's totally adorable.
Dogs get into a lot of trouble but darn us if it's not nearly impossible to look into their big puppy eyes and almost immediately forgive them. How long are you really going to be able to stay mad at these cuties?
It's All Over My Nose!
Dog gets into trouble, dog attempts to smell whatever they got into, dog gets busted. This is exactly why we love our four-legged friends so much. This guy is an adorable bundle of joy.
He got into the powdered sugar and he couldn't be happier! He doesn't care if you want to be mad at him. He's living his best life. And now you know you need to hide the sugar better, or put it on a higher shelf at least.
I Broke It.
When your dog realizes they broke something and then they bring it over to where your sitting it's really hard to be overly mad at them. At least they quickly understood the error of their ways right?
What did he break anyways? We can’t figure out what it is. It’s not a hangar or a handle. Whatever it was, it hopefully wasn’t too important to his owner. It doesn’t look very useful, anyway.
He Was Reading The News?
Here's a dog who was enjoying a quiet evening to himself, eating magazines while his humans were out to dinner. When they came home, he looked like he knew he shouldn't have shredded all of that paper.
Good thing he's cute and will most likely get away with this one punishment-free. What's important is that you read all the best articles before he ate them. It's really your fault for not throwing them away quickly enough.
Dog Decides To Recycle Pizza Box
This restless pup needed to take out some energy. Lo and behold, two pizza boxes sat on top of the garbage can, just waiting to be recycled. This dog clearly got ahold of both, and had a happy 20 minutes shredding them before someone took notice. He looks like he's sorry about it.
He also might have been trying to send a message about eating pizza and not sharing. He loves cheese just as much as you!
He Got Skunked
Well, he's gotten punishment enough for poking his nose where it doesn't belong. This dog was a little too curious about the skunk roaming the neighborhood and got what was coming to him. Skunks are not friends, pal.
There is nothing worse than when your pet gets skunked, just remember that as bad as it for you, it's even worse for the dog. The smell lingers, and he can't get away from it.
He Was Framed
Although he's caught with the trash can around his neck, he swears he was framed. "Dig through the baby's diaper bin? I wouldn't. Not me." That's what his face says, but clearly, this dog is as guilty as they come.
Let's just hope he didn't find anything he deemed worthy of eating. There is nothing, we repeat NOTHING worthy of eating in the baby's diaper bin. Just gross things that need to be disposed of more quickly.
But... I Spelled Your Name
This pup was caught red handed -err, or something like that. Here he sits next to his pride and joy: a creative line of pee all the way down the hallway. He doesn't seem to realize he did something naughty, but let's hope he's still being house broken and this doesn't happen all of the time!
With this pup's age, we guarantee he'll learn to be better. The bathroom is outside, not the hallways.
I Like It Better This Way
This dog was caught too late in the crime for the owner to prevent a huge mess. But here she is, looking rather casual and comfortable. While humans might find old food and rubbish strewn about the house disgusting, this dog seems to prefer it this way. Sorry, not sorry.
And don't even think about trying to clean up, this how you live now. Any attempts to throw things away will be met with resistance.
A Little Refurbishing
Could a pup ever look as pleased with her misdeeds as this one does? She looks absolutely delighted at the fact that she destroyed what was once probably a nice place to sit. Oh well, guess that's her seat now.
Actually, this dog's misbehavior has earned her some fame. Her name is Peaches and she's a Bijon Frise- poodle-bulldog mix who has caused thousands of dollars of damage to her owner's home and furnishings. Even so, you can't stay mad at a face that cute for very long!
Power Strip Pup
Everyone has their vices, even dogs. This dog has a nasty habbit of chewing power cords. Judging by the way he dragged it under the bed and went at it, chewing through the cord while hiding shows that this is not his first time.
Cords are dangerous for animals, but this pup doesn't seem to care. He knows it will be replaced and a new one will be waiting for him soon.
What Even Is Wine?
Unfortunately for this dog's owners, it appears that he got into their wine stash, grabbed a bottle and tossed it on the concrete. Somehow he didn't get any of the delicious red wine on his fur coat. He might have gotten away with the crime, but it looks like he forgot to leave the scene quickly enough.
With any luck, he didn't destroy any expensive bottles of wine. Let's be honest, he totally did, though.
She Loves TP
What is it with animals and babies? Why do they want to mess with toilet paper so much? Clearly, this wasn't the first time that this adorable Weimaraner destroyed the roll of toilet paper.
There must be something about the softness and how it can shred into a million little pieces that capture their attention. No one wants to live in a world where the bathroom door needs to be closed at all times, but it might be necessary in this case.
One Thing Led To Another
Oh my, this dog had quite the day. Not only did they lock themselves in the bathroom, but they went on a rampage while they were in there, before destroying the door to get out.
This owner has a lot of clean-up to do, but seeing that they first decided to take a photo of the dog caught in the act, they still have their sense of humor in tact.
He Used The Force
This lab wasn't patient enough to hear Yoda's wisdom before he tore his fluffy guts out. Yoda looks like he might have been the dog's toy, but it would be sad if it were a kid's! He doesn't appear apologetic at all. Poor Yoda.
It's not fun to realize your pup prefers the dark side of the force to the light side of the force. Good always triumphs over evil unless you're a Yoda doll, apparently.
My Dog Ate My Diploma
This is a very, very bad dog. No doubt this woman was waiting and excited to receive her master's degree soon. But, when her shining piece of accomplishment arrived in the mail, the dog got to it first. This dog really needs to be trained not to mess with the mail!
Most dogs need to be trained not to mess with the mail. What is it about dogs and mail, anyway?
You Don't Need The Left, Right?
This dog can seriously destroy a shoe! He didn't just nibble at the toe, or slobber it up a bit, he managed to rip the entire shoe off it's outsole. I'd have to say, we're not even mad, we're impressed.
But The Bag Was So Enticing
This bright blue and iridescent trash bag must have been completely irresistible to this dog. As far as "trash disasters" go, this one looks pretty tame. It's mainly paper items. Regardless, the pup looks like he's feeling a little guilty about what he's done.
Privacy, Please!
So, this dog just wanted to give himself a little bath. What on earth is wrong with that? Although there doesn't seem to be any soap or shampoo around. Hmmm.
But, The Savings!
Awww, it appears that this Dalmation only wanted to help his human family save a little money. Why else would he have shredded the sale advertisements and coupons?
Simply Irresistible
Tell me, which one of you can resist eating from the garbage pail, when it's chock full of dirty diapers? That's like crack to a dog.
Can't Take Him Anywhere
Well, you can't say that this dog isn't committed to digging. It appears that his owners took him out on some errands and he even offered to help out the shopping center's landscape crew while he was visiting.
The Shining Moment
Doesn't this one remind you a little bit of the famous Jack Nicholson scene from the classic horror film The Shining? If this dog just had an axe in his paws, it would be a perfect recreation of that suspenseful scene.
Whatcha Looking For?
This stout little pup appears to be hunting through the fridge. Wonder how he got into it, and what exactly he's looking for? Perhaps he's scrounging up some ingredients to make his human companions a five-course dinner.
Weenie Wonder
The most miraculous part of this photo, apart from the garbage chaos, is that this short little dog was able to pull that tall trash can down! She sure looks guilty about it now, though. Hope she is not in too much trouble.
Helping
OK, have to side with the dog here. He sees you rip into bags of soil, so why shouldn't he do the same? Perhaps his owners could put some empty pots behind him... that way he can help to fill them up and get them ready for new seeds or plants.
I'm Watching The Game - Don't Disturb Me
So what if this small pup happened to destroy a pillow or toy? He was probably stressed over the outcome of the big game on TV. Just bring him some wings and leave him alone until he gets to see who wins... I'm sure he'll clean up after himself.
What Happened Here?
It's not really clear what led to the scenario you see pictured here. Did the man fall out of his chair, or trip while he was walking? Did the dog trip him? Either way, the pup is not showing him any respect as she sits calmly on the back of his head, completely unconcerned for his well-being.
When The Moon Hits Your Eye Like A Big Pizza Pie...
I have the perfect excuse for this pizza-loving pup. He should simply say that he thought the pizza box was empty and that he was trying to help out by taking out the garbage. It's the best chance he's got.
No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn!
Let's hope that this cute doggie's human companions have a guest bed or at least a comfy sofa to crash on for the night. Those dirt marks look like they might take quite a while to wash out completely!
TP Brigade
What is it with dogs and toilet paper? Perhaps this little champ was attempting to make herself a mummy costume for Halloween?
New Decorating Team
Hi there. I'm a member of your new interior design committee. We decided that the wallpaper had to go. I was hoping you wouldn't come home until we had this all cleaned up and painted. How do you like it so far?
Eyes Closed, You Can't Get In Trouble
Well, this is the cutest kitchen organizer I've ever seen. It appears that this pup cleared out an entire drawer of Saran Wrap and Ziploc bags. Nice work, buddy! *rolls eyes*
Just Sayin' Hi!
This dog isn't being bad at all. He just found himself a little opening in the fence and decided to pop out and say hello! But if you didn't know that, you'd probably assume he'd dug a pretty big hole to get to where he is.
