It’s 2017 and apparently there is still a large group of people who are willing to judge people because of the color of their skin. Some of these people are even allegedly willing to cut off their own children because of who they choose to date.
Take for example Allie Dowdle, a college girl who claims her family stopped paying for her college education because she started dating a black man.
Dowdle is an 18-year-old private school student and she originally started dating her boyfriend on the down low. When her parents found out about their relationship over Christmas break they allegedly gave her an ultimatum, stop seeing him or she would be cut off completely. Dowdle stood her ground, so her family took away her cell phone and her car in addition to her college fund.
Dowdle stood her ground, so her family took away her cell phone and her car in addition to her college fund.
Not wanting to give into pressure from her parents she started a GoFundMe account to pay for school and “Fight Racism.”
Dowdle openly talks about the confrontation she had with her parents when they found out her boyfriend is black.
“Why? Strictly because of skin color. It wasn’t a quiet ‘no,’ either. I’ll never forget the yelling my parents did, when they expressed how disappointed they were in me, that I could do so much better. I did not know what to do. I couldn’t comprehend how someone could be seen as less because of pigment.”
She is a 4.0 GPA student and has now raised over $14,100 towards her $10,000 goal. While her campaign has been successful, some people think her request is ridiculous.

Here’s another person who isn’t a fan of her GoFundMe page and her message.
Dowdle’s mother and father claim that their problem with Dowdle’s boyfriend isn’t the color of his skin but rather the fact that they snuck around. However, her dad does concede that being an interracial couple in their home state of Tennessee comes with “issues.”
Her parents say they still want to help her and only cut her off because she is a “spoiled” brat.
With a 4.0 GPA there is no reason this college student can’t start applying for scholarships which will pay for her tuition.
We don’t know how far the racism stems in her family and there will always be detractors from her messaging but if it’s true we’re proud of this young lady for standing up to something that shouldn’t exist in our day and age — racism.
