Banksy’s Street Art Shows Up On The Gaza Strip

The street artist known as Banksy has become known worldwide for his ability to express powerful messages in the form of free art. While much of his work shows up all over America, he recently headed to the Gaza Strip, where he revealed several new pieces of commentary.

Along with his artwork, the artist released a mock tourism video on February 25, which gives a glimpse inside of the tunnels he used to sneak into Gaza in order to pull off his social commentary. The video also features several brief interviews with locals.

The best way to explain Banksy’s work is to show it to you, so here it is:

Banksy proclaims, “A local man came up and said ‘Please – what does this mean?’ I explained I wanted to highlight the destruction in Gaza by posting photos on my website – but on the internet people only look at pictures of kittens”

The artist further explains, “Gaza is often described as ‘the world’s largest open air prison’ because no-one is allowed to enter or leave. But that seems a bit unfair to prisons – they don’t have their electricity and drinking water cut off randomly almost every day”.
