Terry Fox was born in 1958 with a promising and healthy life ahead of him. He was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma cancer as a young man, which led him to have his right leg amputated. During his time in the hospital, other young people with cancer inspired him, and Fox decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
Fox called it, “The Marathon of Hope” which snowballed into a national phenomenon. The world followed Terry as he ran 26 miles a day. Sadly, Terry’s Marathon of Hope came to an end when his cancer spread to his lungs, eventually leading to his death. However, his mission carried on, and since 1981, the Terry Fox Run has raised over $650,000 for cancer research.
