Bethany Hamilton Is Still In The Water

Bethany Hamilton was eight years old when she began her competitive surfing career. Everything was right on track for her to become a professional surfer until on October 21, 2003, 13-year-old Bethany had her left arm bitten off by a 14-foot tiger shark. By the time she reached the hospital she had lost over 60 percent of her blood and had numerous surgeries to be stabilized.
She didn’t let her incident with the shark slow down her surfing career. She was back on her board as soon as she could and even went on to win a national title in 2005. Shortly after, she became a professional surfer. Aside from surfing, Bethany is a mother of two, an author, public speaker, and has participated in reality TV shows.
