Unfortunately, animals find themselves far from home pretty often. This can be because they get lost, stolen, or orphaned. Luckily, there are places in the world where lost animals can find a new home. The Mare and Foal Sanctuary in England is one of those places.
When foals become orphaned or abandoned, this place takes them in. Keep reading to find out what happened to a little foal who found comfort in an unlikely friend.
A New Friend For Breeze
This little foal's name is Breeze. He was born in 2013. Unfortunately, Breeze was rejected by his mother, so he had to be taken to the Mare and Foal Sanctuary in Devon, England. The employees and volunteers at the sanctuary noticed that Breeze was lonely, and they wanted to do something to cheer him up.
That's when Breeze met Buttons, a teddy bear that was almost as big as he was. Pretty soon, Breeze and Buttons became best friends.
A Source Of Comfort
Breeze very much enjoyed Buttons' company. There was something about the soft and squishy texture of this teddy that reminded him of his mother. When Breeze was just a few hours old, he wouldn't leave Buttons' side. After a few weeks, Breeze found himself only visiting Buttons at nighttime when he returned to his stall after a long day of playing in the field.
As Breeze got older, he didn't need Buttons anymore, so Buttons went on to comfort other little foals who were in need of some affection.
A Heartwarming Reunion
Breeze is now a happy and healthy 3-year-old pony. He's learning how to wear a saddle and become comfortable with people leaning on his back. All of the staff at the Mare and Foal sanctuary are very proud of him.
Recently, Breeze reunited with his old friend Buttons. Breeze immediately recognized the teddy bear. Staff at the sanctuary said that Breeze carried Buttons around his stable for a while, and then when he got tired, he curled up with the bear for a nap, just like when he was a foal.
A Happy, Healthy Pony
It looks like Buttons shrunk a bit since the last time Breeze saw him. Either that or Breeze is just way bigger. It's probably the latter. This handsome pony was so glad to see his old source of comfort.
Once Breeze is fully trained, the sanctuary will help him find the perfect home. Until then, he is loving his life at the Mare and Foal Sanctuary. He has so many other young ponies to play with, and he loves running around in wide-open spaces.
