When a severely abused pit bull puppy wandered into one Reddit user’s backyard on Christmas, he and his friends had to do something about it. Reddit user hopeidontdie posted photos of Chance’s rescue, explaining that the poor pup wandered into the backyard during Christmas dinner because his mom’s significant other forgot to close the gate.

Chance was beaten, his mouth was taped shut, and he smelled of infection. The heartbroken friends rushed the pup to the hospital, where they cut the tape on his mouth and inspected all of his injuries.
Still not sure if he would survive his injuries, the animal hospital reached out to Sherri Christopher of Guardians of the Green Mile, a group of animal lovers who act as a liaison between kill shelters an animal rescue groups.
Despite the cost of taking in Chance, Sherri told the hospital, “Absolutely, we’re going to stand up for this guy. He’s got the will. We’ve got the backing.”
Sherri shared several photos of Chance on the group’s Facebook page, along with the news that he is healing. Still, it will take time. According to The Dodo, Chance had to have a mass of dead tissue removed from his mouth. He also has two broken hips, most likely caused by someone stomping on them.
Despite all the pain he went through, Sherri and the Guardians of the Green Mile were happy to report that “this is a happy, grateful dog that constantly wags its tail and is eating well.”
Thanks to one Reddit user and his friends Chance is expected to make a full recovery. The abused pit bull puppy should be available for adoption after his injuries have healed.
