Alissa Bousquet recently finished her final round of chemotherapy and she was in for a really big surprise. Her supportive husband, Brad, wanted to show his love for her, so he bought a few roses.
500 roses to be exact.
Brad contacted 20 of their closest friends, sharing his idea for the surprise, and asked them to forward the message along to other friends.
Before the roses were even delivered, most of Oakland, Nebraska had heard about the idea.
Brad worked closely with the town’s florist, Sue Beckner, to charge $10 for each rose. The money they collected would go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting back again breast cancer and ultimately a cure for the disease.
The community raised $4,500, which allowed Brad to purchase all 500 of the roses he wanted to surprise his wife with.
During her last treatment, the roses were delivered to Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center in Omaha, Nebraska where Alissa had been receiving treatment.
Her reaction at seeing just one bucket of roses was impressive, but then they just kept coming.
Alissa still has several surgeries in her future before she’ll be cancer-free, but she’s headed in the right direction.
