Cats in Halloween costumes are adorable. From lobster outfits to a scuba cat that's ready to go diving for its own fish, we can't get enough of these adorable outfits. Many of these cat costumes can be put together on your own — while others are available for purchase online. Even if you're not a cat fan, it's hard to deny that the Panda cat hasn't won over your heart or that the Yoda outfit is anything short of amazing.
From vampire cats and sea creatures to fairytale reenactments and superhero costumes, we can't decide which Halloween outfits we love the most.
Joker And Batman Cat
If you have multiple cats you can purchase Batman and Joker costumes and then pit them against each other in a battle of epic proportions. Sure you have to stack the fight in bat cat's favor otherwise the cosmic scales of the universe will shift and a bunch of comic book fans will lose their minds.
The Joker cat in this photo has done a good job of staring down the camera with a menacing look even the Joker would be proud of. Here's to hoping Batman cat has at least one good fight in them when Halloween finally arrives.
Piggy Cat
One of the most popular types of cat Halloween costumes involves turning your adorable feline friends into a different kind of animal. Farm animals are especially popular because who doesn't want to turn their furry little friend into a little piggy, lamb, or other pet that old McDonald's would be proud to call their own.
This "Piggy Cat" comes equipped with their own adorable snout and a cute little piggy tail. You can buy this cat costume online or with a few sewing skills you can set out to create your own unique take on this costume, perhaps in pink.
Lobster Cat
This is one of the most viral cat Halloween costumes we could find. The costume was bought online and there are various options available for lobster cat outfits. What makes this particular photo so special is the cat's owner and their attention to detail. Placing the cute little cat in a pot and snapping a photo really added to the realism of this picture.
The cat doesn't look super thrilled but then against we wouldn't either if we were placed in a pot and put on top of the stove. This is one of our favorite photos just because it was so well planned.
Harry Potter Cat
If you are just looking for something that is really popular and easy to put together you can't go wrong with Harry Potter. Grab a stripped cat sweater, knit a maroon and gold scarf, and make some Harry Potter style glasses out of simple pipe cleaners. This probably isn't the most well put together costume we've shown off but it's definitely straightforward and easy to recreate.
This cat does not look super thrilled to be wearing this uniform but we're just going to assume that's because they wanted to be in Slytherin or Hufflepuff. It's definitely all the sorting hats fault this time!
Sushi Cat
We have already shown you pictures of cats dressed like fish and photos of our feline friends dressed as food. It's finally time to combine those two items and present a cat dressed up like a sushi roll. We're going to pass on eating this special great because nothing good can come from sushi with hair. Also, this adorable little kitten looks way too cute to eat.
Obviously, this isn't a practical costume because of the mobility issue but it's definitely worth creating for a quick photo session. Hopefully, this cat was fed some real fish for its patient effort.
Tiger Cat
Dressing a cat up as a bigger cat might give them a complex. With that being said, dressing a cat up like a ferocious yet adorable tiger is absolutely adorable. This is an awesome costume because you can claim they are Tigger from Winnie the Pooh or a wild beast that roams in the wild.
This cat doesn't look overly amused by their costume but they also don't look mad. You can create this costume on your own but most cat costumes are under $30, making them a very affordable option for many bet lovers who really get into the Halloween spirit.
Popeye Cat
If you're looking for a throwback costume that will have your older friends in stitches, look no further than the Popeye costume from Costume Works. This awesome outfit gives your cat a cute little hat, the full Popeye outfit, and even the iconic cartoon characters muscles. There's probably little chance you can get your cat to eat actual spinach so why not at least give them the look of a spinach-eating hero.
Create an Olive Oyl costume for another cat in your family and it will be a love story for the ages. It's a very simple felt costume that you could also probably create on your own.
Chef Cat
If you've ever watched the cartoon version of Curious George you are probably familiar with Chef Pisghetti's cat gnocchi. If this cat was actually a chef this is probably the outfit they would wear. Whether frying up a recently caught mouse or mixing together some catcakes for dessert, this little chef is always willing to jump into the kitchen.
Even in the photo shown here, our friendly feline seems really interested in the prospect of working in the kitchen. We don't know what type of dishes they will create but we're excited to see what their imagination whips up.
Rice Krispies Cat
Please realize that placing your cat inside a giant Rice Krispies looking treat is probably going to make them angry. We're personally afraid of cats with attitudes so we would probably avoid this costume but to each their own. Even the look at this cats face proves that no living creature wants to dress up like this on purpose.
At the same time, it's a super simple costume that can be created when you don't have a lot of time or a lot of money to spend on a costume. We're not sure if this cat is snap, crackle, or pop and we're too afraid to ask them at this time.
Adorable Bunny Cat
If you've ever watched the popular movie "A Christmas Story" you are well aware of the look on Ralphie's face when he is forced to slip into the pink bunny costume he's sent for Xmas. If Ralphie owned a cat we're pretty sure this would be his feline. This cat doesn't look amused and we can't blame them, there is a known history of cat and rabbit rivalries.
This poor little guy was forced into an outfit they would never be caught dead wearing in public and that's no fun for them. Although, we have to admit that just like Ralphie, this little guy doesn't look adorable, even if they are a bit miserable.
Winnie The Pooh Cat
Remember that tiger outfit we said would make for a great Tigger outfit? This is the complement to that Halloween costume. Winnie The Pooh is one of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time so finding this costume in stores every year is pretty simple. Once you've put one cat in a tiger outfit and another cat in a Tigger outfit you can upgrade the third cat to an Eeyore costume which we will reveal in the near future.
As an added bonus, if you have a young child at home they can be Christopher Robin and you'll have a good amount of the original cat together for Halloween.
Princess Leia Cat
We've geeked out a lot through our list of Halloween cat costumes and how could we not when "Star Trek" and "Star War"s have been showcased multiple times. We couldn't in good conscience complete our list without at least one princess Leia cat outfit. A blank white rob and a hair piece are all that's required to pull off this ensemble.
We're really tempted at this point to adopt enough cats to put on an epic battle between the dark and light forces. This little kitten doesn't seem to mind their outfit which makes us assume they are a fan of the movie franchise -- because who isn't!
We Can Bear-ly Handle This Simple Cat Costume
If you want to save on your cat's Halloween costume just grab a little bit of "fur looking" fabric and create a new head of hair for your four-legged friend. This house pet costume can turn your cat into a bear, a wolve, or any other animal of your choosing. The best part about these type of costumes is that your cat will pull it off their head when they're done with amusing you.
This cat looks like they were really close to tearing their Halloween head slip off their head and move on with life -- but not before their own could capture this silly photo of their furry friend.
Reindeer Cat
This cat is ready to leave Santa's sleigh when Rudolph's nose isn't needed on a foggy night. The reindeer cat costume is really easy to pull off if you have a brown or great cat. Simply place a hat with some antlers on their head and you're ready to go. You could also skip the had and use a simple headband with antlers.
Your cat will appreciate that you haven't place them inside of a full Halloween costume. You could try to add a red nose but you'll probably end up with claw marks without accomplishing your goal. Either way, this cat looks super adorable in their reindeer Halloween costume.
Police Officer Cat
Meet Harley, the police cat that isn't going to put up with your human antics! They also have no problem arresting annoying and troublemaking dogs. We're not really sure how they undo your handcuffs without thumbs but that's your problem and not theirs. You could attempt to make this costume on your own but a better bet would be to purchase the outfit on the internet or at your local pet store.
Cats really are the police force in many homes, carefully watching over their domain and letting us know when they don't like changes or something that is happening in front of them.
In-Bread Cat
This outfit was inspired by the "in-bred" cat meme that has been circulating around the internet pretty much since memes became a reality. It's kind of a mean costume but let's be honest, the cat breeding population is pretty messed up and this might actually be a reality.
You can knit your own inbred cat Halloween costume or you can simply use a real piece of bread, a costume that will last approximately three seconds before your cat starts scarfing down its costume. The look on this sweet cat's face pretty much sums up why this Halloween costume is probably a bad idea.
Cute Froggy Cat
Here's a Halloween cat costume that Kermit the Frog would be happy to see. Bonus points if you can teach your cat to hop around the house when wearing this outfit. Double bonus points if you can teach them to sing the popular song "Rainbow Connection" while sitting on a lily pad.
This is yet another Halloween costume that can be created for your feline friend with just a few pieces of felt. It's not restrictive, looks adorable, and cats dressed as frogs are adorable by their very nature. They also both say only one-word "meow" and "ribbit" so it's a perfect fit!
The Panda Cat
This panda cat costume sort of looks like a panda ate a cat and the kitty is trying to crawl their way out. Still, we can't give over how cute this feline friend looks in a distinctive black and white coat of fur. Pandas are known for being curious and playful creatures when they want to be and so are cats.
Our search for adorable cat Halloween costumes would already be done if this cat was still a little kitten and was showing off their costume as a baby panda. This isn't our last cat in a wild animal costume but it's one of our favorites.
The Cat In The Hat
No cat Halloween costume list would be complete without paying homage to the brilliant Theodore Geisel, better known to millions of fans around the world as Dr. Seuss. The Cat in the Hat is read by millions of children every year and that's an amazing feat all by itself. This costume can easily be created with a little bit of knitting or sewing skills or you can find it online.
It's not a restrictive costume for your cat friend so they shouldn't complain too much. If your cat gets in a bunch of trouble while wearing this costume you, unfortunately, can't really blame them.
An Adorable Mouse Cat
This doesn't seem fair. Cats eat mice, they don't put on costumes that look like their favorite food and then parade themselves around. This reminds us of Lady Gaga wearing an outfit that was made out of actual cuts of meat. Although, this furry little cat does look adorable while laying around dressed like their arch enemy.
Perhaps they can use this Halloween costume to infiltrated a mouse community before turning on their new friends for one giant, glorious feast. This must be a popular option because there are a ton of cat-friendly mouse costumes on the internet.
Another Batman Cat
We don't really understand why so many people have created Batman costumes for their cats but it's a Halloween costume that keeps appearing during our searches. This cat is ready to fight crime but we suspect they are really looking to meet their idol -- Catwoman.
Whatever their motivation might be there's no reason to assume this cat won't be able to fight crime with their super fast reflexes, their awesome hunting skills, and their ability to see in the dark. Now that we think about it, cats are already a special type of superhero all on their very own.
Eyore Cat
We've seen Winnie the Pooh, witnessed the awesomeness of Tigger, and now we present you with Eeyore. This kitten's face almost perfectly sums up the attitude of this beloved cartoon character. If you have a cat that isn't super hyper and maybe even mopes around the house this could be the perfect costume for them.
The Eeyore outfit has been available online for years so you can easily pick up this option if you can't get enough of the classic. If your cat starts to suddenly develop a complex we would recommend quickly removing them from this outfit.
Cow Cat
Try to milk this cat and they will like try to claw you. We admit that this house pet wasn't in the mood for their Halloween costume but they still look adorable. It might seem a little weird that pet owners want to dress their cats up as other animals but think about our human costumes.
We often dress ourselves up as other people which is basically like wearing someone else's skin as our own. We're not sure why the head of this cow has a gold ring on it but other than that, it's still a cute outfit. You can make your own cow costume for your cat but there are plenty available for sale on the internet.
Ballerina Skeleton Cat
A little bit of the afterlife mixed with a ballerina makes this a top unique outfit on our cat Halloween costume list. This costume does a really good job of matching the temperament of our four-legged friends. Sometimes they are a bit creepy and they are usually graceful and light on their feet.
Placing a black cat in a skeleton costume certainly adds to the allure of this Halloween costume and we love that the cat doesn't seem to mind being dressed up for the spooky holiday. You can buy plenty of skeleton costumes for cats and add a ballerina skirt for a fun take on a classic costume.
Gumby Cat
If you are a fan of the surreal comedy and cartoon styling of Gumby you'll love this simple and really weird cat Halloween costume. You can go with a two piece costume or combine them into a single jumper that is more likely to stay on your cat for more than two seconds.
This costume is one of the most unique costumes we have found so your cat isn't likely to be spotted wearing the same costume as another house pet. Yes, it's also a bit creepy but isn't that part of what Halloween is all about? Be prepared for younger people to ask, "what is your cat supposed to be dressed up like?"
Shark Cat
Cats and kittens have sharp little teeth and sharks have a ton of super sharp teeth that can tear through a surfer in seconds. Why not combine a shark with a cat! No this isn't Sharknado: Cat Edition, but it could be! This cat looks kind of freaked out, almost like it realized a sharks mouth is around its neck and could chomp down at any time.
This costume once again proves that people like to place their feline friends inside of costumes that belong in the water. Have you all forgotten that cats and water go together like matches and gasoline?
Nyan Cat IRL
If your end goal with a Halloween cat costume is simply to get a laugh out of your friends, this meme-inspired costume is a fun option. The Nyan Cat IRL is a play on the Nyan Cat meme that has been circulating around the internet for a long time now.
This precious kitty is named Zoey, and the look on her little face perfectly sums up the magic that is the Nyan Cat Halloween costume. Nice work!
Rastafarian Cat
This cat likes to chill and listen to Bob Marley. Their interests include peace, love, and chilled out music. It's not very often that we get to see a Rastafarian cat with braided hair but it's a look we could get used to. This is a really complex outfit and unfortunately, we couldn't find it for sale anywhere.
If you are really inventive with a sewing machine you can replicate this look and end up with a really unique cat costume. For some reason, your cat might find itself with a case of the munchies they moment they slip into this adorable cat Halloween costume.
Kanye West Cat
This cat is super creative and will always tell you exactly why they are better than you. They like to watch MTV and complain about every other musician except for Beyonce who they think deserves to win every award ever given out. They will likely attempt to steal your girl and they won't apologize for anything they do that breaks stuff in your home.
On second thought, please don't dress your cat up like Kanye West, nothing good can come from this Halloween costume and you'll likely end up begging your cat to just chill out and think about other people for a moment.
Mermaid Cat
This mermaid still has her legs -- we smell something fishy going on! Perhaps this is the story of Ariel in her landlocked role from "The Little Mermaid." Simple cape costumes tend to work better with cats since they don't restrict their movements. Buyer beware, sometimes when confronted with a costume, cats will simply lay down on the ground and refuse to move until the costume is removed.
If nothing else, you could grab a quick photo of your pet in their Halloween costume and then share it on Facebook. Just don't expect your feline friend to wear their costume all day on October 31.
Taco Cat
Taco cat was one of the first Halloween costumes we found for our feline friends and we immediately fell in love with the ridiculous nature of this costume. This internet user crocheted their pet's costume and it came out perfect! The little kitten doesn't seem to mind being turned into a taco, probably because they don't know how delicious they look.
This particular picture was viewed by millions of people who couldn't get enough of the concept. There are even some photos on the internet of people who dressed up their newborn babies in nearly the exact same Halloween costume.
Cleopatra Cat
If you live in a house with men this cat will likely lord over them like it's their job. We've spotted a lot of historic cat costumes while searching the internet and this was one of our favorites. Cleopatra lived in a part of the world that revered cats so it's a fitting feline Halloween costume.
The cape and crown are both easy to replicate which also means your cat will likely have a costume that closely resembles the original. If you're a history lover and have cats of your very own, check through our entire list to find a few other costumes that will inspire you this Halloween.
Shark Cat Costume
This is the second Shark Halloween costume we have found for cats and it follows a similar theme. The cats head is sticking out of the shark's mouth, which makes it seem like the cat was just eating by the shark.
We love that this is a single piece costume which means the cat won't end up taking off the outfit within seconds of putting it on. It's also another example of a water-fearing cat being placed inside the costume of a water-dwelling creature!
Vampire Cat
Cat Dracula! If you spend your time reading Anne Rice and Bram Stoker stories this might be the perfect costume for your cat. The cat Dracula costume is another easy one to create on your own because you only need a cape. A cat's teeth already kind of resembles a vampire so they have a built-in part of their costume already ready to go.
Plus, cats do their best hunting in the middle of the night and vampires will explode in a firey ball before turning to dust if they go outside in the middle of the day. This really is a good pairing of folklore and cat.
Another Adorable Reindeer Cat
The first cat in a Reindeer costume we showed you was a simplistic two-piece design you could probably create on your own with very little effort. This reindeer costume is a single piece outfit that your four-legged friend won't easily escape from the second its placed on their furry little body.
This cat, admittedly, doesn't look thrilled to be in their outfit. Of course, most cats don't want to be dressed up and paraded around for their owner's amusement so this cat's reaction to being dressed up like a reindeer is pretty much exactly what we would expect.
Black Tie Affair Cat
This cat is ready to take on a life of international mystery as bond, cat bond. Even if they don't feel like fighting bad guys this outfit is perfect for taking your four-legged buddy to a black-tie affair. If we could bring our animals with us everywhere we go, this is how we expect people would dress up their family pets.
Unfortunately, this dapper little cat only gets to put on their finest threads and strut around the house when Halloween arrives once a year. Keep it classy you adorable little cat and we'll see you at our next big gala in New York City.
Colonial Cat
This cat will cuddle up on the couch with you to watch a Ken Burns history special and then they'll break out their own sewing kit and create a perfect replica of the American flag. If you're a history buff and you own a cat the costumes you can create to recreate your favorite time in history are endless.
This colonial cat costume comes with a wig, hat, and cape, all items that an expert seamstress can create on their own. Throw in a feather on top of the cat's cap and it almost feels like they caught a bird to assist in the creation of their Halloween costume -- that seems very fitting.
Chicken Cat
This cat's face would have us believe they are actually comfortable being wrapped in the warmth of a chicken costume. Farm animals are a popular theme among cat owners who are in search of the perfect Halloween costume. If you have an entire litter of kittens you can probably create your own farm inside your home for Halloween.
Just remember that you shouldn't leave your cat in a costume for too long because it can affect their body temperature. Basically, costumes are great for a photo shoot but not right for all day use.
Skeleton Cat
We first spotted this costume at Petco and we immediately knew that cats should wear skeleton outfits all of the time! Given the history of cat's and their attachment to supernatural forces, there is something that really fits well between felines and skeletons. This is a lightweight costume that won't overheat your cat or kitten and it's cheap at less than $20.
If you absolutely must put your own cat in a costume we typically recommend taking photos and then immediately removing the costume. Even though this outfit is lightweight, we still recommend quick use and then a quick removal to save your cat from any stress.
Wild Things Cat
Where do the wild things go? If they are a cat they go wherever they want because cats are the boss, just ask any cat owner. If you're a fan of literature and you grew up reading this book, you're probably already thinking about running out to purchase this costume.
This cat doesn't seem to mind being dressed up like a famous book character. Honestly, with the fluffy nature of this costume, we wouldn't mind being dressed up like characters from this iconic book either! This cat isn't the only feline to wear a costume from a famous book series and they won't be the last!
Fish Cat
Seriously, why do so many people think it's a good idea or funny to dress their cat up in something they would normally eat? We don't see people walking around dressed like cheeseburgers. This would almost been a mean Halloween costume if it wasn't so darn cute.
As an added bonus, you can make this entire costume out of felt squares which you can pick up at most fabric or hobby stores. Even if you don't have a lot of sewing skills this costume should be simple to create and you can choose your own unique colors that match your cat's personality.
Ballerina Cat
This is exactly how we would expect a cat to be dressed up if a little girl was inviting them to a tea party. We bet this little feline danced all over the place... in an attempt to remove the one piece ballerina outfit from their body!
If you are absolutely dead set on buying a Halloween costume for your pet we urge you to think about their unique personality and dress them in a costume that will really bring out their true nature. Or just put them in a ballerina outfit because... OMG, it's just way too cute to avoid.
Penguin Cat
Penguins and cats don't have a lot in common. Cats hate water, have thrived in the heat of the desert for centuries, and typically want to be left alone. Penguins love water, even if it's freezing cold, they often live in freezing cold climates, and they are incredibly sociable animals.
Despite their differences, it's still fun to dress a cat up in a penguin costume and watch them waddle around or attempt to start a fight with another cat dressed in a Batman costume.
Stay Puft Marshmallow Cat
This Stay Puft Marshmallow Cat ain't afraid of no ghost. Once this adorable kitty breaks free from its home the only way to stop it involves crossing several proton lasers and hoping for the best.
You can easily create this costume on your own or look for a replica on the internet. With a reboot now available and a history of support among Ghostbusters fans, it's likely your cat will be praised for "their" choice in Halloween costume this year.
Adorable Mermaid Cat
At this point, we have embraced the fact that a lot of people want to dress their cats up like mermaids. What we can't quite figure out is why a bra is needed? There is really no functional need for this part of the Halloween costume.
If you want to be really inventive, create a mermaid outfit that is meant to be worn by a cat that also happens to be a mermaid. At least this little furball gets to walk around on land. They don't have to sacrifice their fin for some guy they barely know and met for only a few seconds on the beach.
Bacon Cat
Everything's better with bacon, right? Actually, no. This costume makes us want to ditch bacon for sausage and maybe even skip breakfast altogether. We love cats, we love bacon, we just don't like them together. This outfit would probably be a lot more pleasing to the cat if the costume was actually edible.
We know Americans have an obsession with bacon and we are definitely among that group, but food-related Halloween costumes are sometimes just really weird. On a positive note, it looks like this cat could easily get out of this costume when they want to escape.
Cowboy Cat
When we first saw this Halloween cat costume there was one thing that came to mind -- where in the world can I buy a pair of cat-fitted sunglasses! This cat knows exactly how to rock a cowboy hat and they have the swagger of a new sheriff in town.
If you can find a very tiny cowboy hat and a really small pair of sunglasses you can easily pull off this costume. Does it amaze anyone else the length cat owners will go to in order to include their four-legged friends on their Halloween celebrations? We just give our cat a few extra treats and they seem ecstatic.
Court Jester Cat
If your cat is the jokester or troublemaker in your home they might be the perfect candidate for this court jester Halloween costume. They will personally love the jingle of the balls that are attached to the main part of their costume and their hat.
We have a feeling that leaving this costume on your house pet for too long will result in a lot of those jingle bells disappearing after a few minutes of play. Keep in mind that costumes with small parts can pose a hazard to your cat and small children in the home so this costume shouldn't remain on for more than a short period of supervised time.
Turkey Cat
As you've probably realized by this point, people love to turn their cats into different kinds of birds. Turkeys are a popular option both for Halloween and then a few weeks later during Thanksgiving. If you want to take a shortcut with your cat's costume just buy them this simple hat and they're ready for several different holidays.
Between fish and birds, we feel a little bit sorry for the life choices these cats owners are making for them. Although, if these cats can get into the skin of their enemies, they may learn to hunt them down with more precision.
Super Mario Cat
Earlier in our post we mentioned that a Zelda costume wouldn't be the only Nintendo throwback to make our list. Check out this super simple Mario outfit. Sure this cat's owner could have also throw the kitten in some red overalls but Mario's iconic red had with a giant M is all you need to show off your cat's love of Halloween.
Okay, it's really to show off your love of the holiday, your cat could care less and would probably rather be taking a nap. If you don't want to spend a lot of time on your cat's costume, you can always go with a simple hat option.
Grumpy Mouse Cat
If we were forced to wear a Halloween costume based on our favorite food, we would have the same grumpy look this cat has on their face. This cat might not love being dressed like a grumpy mouse but at least it's a simple costume they can easily escape from.
We do have to applaud their owner for wearing a Minnie Mouse type bow, it really pulls together the cat-owner ensemble. Cats are pretty enough without being dressed up in silly costumes but they also look hilarious when given the chance to portray a different type of animal.
Going To Work Cat
If Barney from "How I Met Your Mother" adopted a cat this would be his first choice. This dapper little pet is all ready for work or a night on the town. We can't stress enough that these very simple costumes are the safest for your pet because they don't overheat them or leave their body restricted from normal movement.
You can create this costume with a few simple pieces of fabric and 10 minutes of spare time which makes it a thrifty but adorable option. Our next cat is dressed in a much more complex outfit that you probably don't want to make on your own.
Batman Cat
I'm Catman! This costume is available for sale and it actually fits a cat-shaped head really well. Pair this costume with the Penguin costume on our list and you cat pit your feline friends against each other in a superhero story that's as old as the franchise itself.
If you don't want to spend cash on this costume the simplicity of the costume makes it really easy to mimic with some fabric. Batman created his own costume who why not take a page out of Bruce Wayne's book and do the same! Your cat will be saving lives in no time at all -- or they'll be really mad at you for weeks, it's a toss-up.
Argh. Pirate Cat
We call this little guy "Captain Hook" because we love horrible puns and won't apologize for it! If you are really into the period piece outfits that are often seen on Halloween, this might be the perfect choice for your feline friend.
We don't really understand how the hook it attached but we wouldn't recommend letting your pet walk around with the hook attached for safety reasons. Unlike the last cat pirate on our list, at least this little guy isn't wearing an eye patch that restricts their vision. There is something about the attitude of cats that would likely make them amazing pirates.
Cowboy Horse Cat Costume
Turning cats into other animals is a common theme we discovered in our search for the most adorable and funniest cat costumes. Turning our furry feline friends into a horse, however, might be our favorite gimmicky Halloween costume. This popular costume option includes a simple harness that attaches to your cat's stomach.
Attached to the harness are a saddle and a stuffed animal. This costume allows your four-legged friend a bit more freedom to run around, although placing a pet mouse or dog on the saddle seems a bit mean. Just remember, you have to sleep at some point and your cat is a creature of the night. You've been warned.
A simple Shark Cat Costume
Unlike other shark costumes that make it appear like your best furry friend has been eaten by a shark, this costume simply turned their back into a finned out version of the ferocious creatures. This might actually be a welcomed addition for your pet if it's a particularly cold Halloween.
At the same time, cats tend to absolutely hate clothing and you'll likely find your house pet struggling to remove the costume they have been forced to try on. On a positive note, if you have the right material this is a pretty simple costume to sew together and it won't cost you a lot of money to get just right.
Count Dracula Cat
This sweet little cat is definitely more friendly-looking than Vlad the Impaler or Bram Stoker's Dracula. Dressing cats up like vampires, as we saw earlier in our list, is popular among many owners. This costume is really easy to put together with just a cape and a bowtie, both of which you can make on your own with very few sewing or knitting skills.
Just beware -- cats are creatures of the night and if you forget to remove this outfit before you fall asleep, you might wake up to an angry vampire cat sitting on your head. As always, make sure to use velcro or some other easy breakaway material to secure this costume so your cat doesn't choke if crawling through small places inside your home.
Pumpkin Cat
This is definitely the kitten Halloween costume that made us laugh the hardest. We're pretty sure this cat mask didn't manage to stay connected to the cat's head for very long. However, we love the kitten's large beautiful eyes that are staring deep into your soul, questioning why it was forced to wear such a silly outfit.
Throw in the orange and black necklace and you have a really unique and silly costume. We think this cat's outfit is sincere enough to warrant a visit from the great pumpkin. You can easily make this costume by purchase two pieces of felt and a festive piece of ribbon.
Rockstar Cat
If Jack Black was going to dress up a kitten for Halloween this would be the House of Rock inspired costume he would go for. Our little Axl Rose in training is jamming out for their loving audience and we're impressed with their ability to stand on two feet. We do want to know where they got the cat-sized Marshall amp and guitar but we'll take it! Okay, so obviously this is a photoshopped costume but get rid of the guitar and stick to just some fake hair and a headband and this costume could actually be a big winner on Halloween night.
Little Red Riding Hood Cat
This might not be a sly wolf out for a meal, but little red riding cat is still sporting some long ears and big eyes. We have a feeling the big bad wolf would regret going after this version of little red, especially with her not so little claws.
This homemade costume will cost you less than $20 to make. We're not really sure how little cat riding hood is supposed to carry their famous picnic basket full of goodies. Either way, once she gets to grandma's house she'll have to explain why she's a little cat and not a girl with dessert and bread.
Davey Crockett Cat
This cat will defend their home from a thousand men if they need to! Or they will just curl up on the couch and stare at you with a judging look in their eyes. This Davey Crockett inspired look is really impressive because we've never seen such a tiny version of the famous coonskin hat.
The bottom would be easy enough to recreate but good luck matching that top if your sewing skills are not right on point. Thankfully, we live in the age of the internet, and finding this type of stuff is relatively easy with just a few quick Google searches.
Puss In Boots Cat
First, we love that this cat is actually wearing boots. Second, we love that they are in the full puss in boots costume, ready to battle against any type of enemy that stands before them. However, we can't get over the fact that this person is attempting to take their feline friend for a walk.
If there's one thing we've learned over our years of cat ownership, it's that they don't want to be treated like a dog. Perhaps after a few minutes, this cat will finally decide to show their own just how much like Puss in Boots they really can be if you push them.
Another Super Cute Lion Cat
This lion cat is outside and climbing a bunch of trees, which probably freaked out the neighborhood birds who came face to face with a miniature lion. We do love the simplicity but we really wish a tiny little lion that never grows up actually existed.
In the meantime, we'll just have to settle for a mighty little lion cat who is on the prowl for their next feast! This adds a whole new meaning to "big cat." Now excuse us as we go in search of more lion cat Halloween costumes.
Bat Cat
We've seen a ton of vampire cat costumes and they have been adorable. So how do those cats get around? They turn into bats! Just throw some wings onto the back of your black cat and this ensemble is basically complete.
This little guy has some included vampire or bat teeth but we're not really sure how they stay on. It's a cute kitten but the thought of this little guy flying around over our heads is actually pretty scary when you start thinking about it. Either way, it's a fun costume that doesn't take a lot of work to make on your own!
Baseball Player Cat
No offense to cats but we feel like dogs are more likely to play baseball. Cats are not really big on the whole game of fetch and they are likely not going to take orders from a coach, so base stealing is going to become a problem.
On the other hand, they are very good at stealing things when nobody is looking and they can jump higher than dogs. Plus, they can run up fabric walls which might prevent a lot of home runs. Regardless of a cat's actual ability to play baseball they sure look adorable when dressed in a uniform with an included bat and ball cap.
Hamburger Cat
This delicious looking cheeseburger cat doesn't look at all thrilled by the prospect of ending up in some kids happy meal. This costume has been spotted at pet stores for years. You can also make the costume with a few pieces of fabric that are layered on top of each other and trimmed to resemble burger patties, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese on a sesame seed bun.
Your cat friend probably won't tolerate their new layered costume for long but the pictures you can quickly capture will be well worth the effort. From tacos to burgers, people really like turning their cats into food... figuratively of course.
Snail Cat
Cats are known for their quickness but this furry little ball of fur would rather go with the "slow and steady wins the race" mantra. With a headband they can surely remove very quickly, we're actually really impressed that this cat allows that part of their costume to remain in place for more than a millisecond.
Perhaps they were character acting and it was just taking a very long time for them to remove the ridiculous antennae their own placed on top of their head. Some cats are just less temperamental than others. This is by far one of the more original costumes we found for our four-legged friends.
Snow White Cat
Does your child already attempt to dress your house cat up in princess clothes? Or maybe you are just a giant Disney fan and want your cat to experience the joy you have for some classic fairytale-based cartoons. Whatever the case might be, this Snow White outfit will have your cat questioning your sanity but also looking very much like a feline princess.
Judging by the look on this cat's face the blouse and tutu being worn in this outfit was a little bit too much for their personal style choices. We're sure this one will be a hit among fans of Disney but not among cats.
Dinosaur Cat
OMG. OMG. OMG. If dinosaurs were really as cute and cuddly and loyal as cats and kittens we would be demanding a cloning program. This little cat is sporting an adorable dino costume that we suspect was actually created for babies. Speaking of little children many cat costumes are really just repurposed outfits that small newborn children would typically wear.
If you have leftover solid onesies you can even turn those outfits into cat costumes with some basic sewing skills and just a little bit of creativity. Have fun with your own imagination and hopefully our list has given you some creative ideas for your own Halloween cat costume.
Devil Cat
Humans love to dress up as devils and angels for Halloween so why not get your cat in on the action. We love our feline friends but this might be the one animal the devil would actually be scared to meet even on his home turf. The deep stare of this devil cat is enough to send shivers down your spine.
Are they up to no good? Probably, because they are a cat. You can easily create a devil costume on your own with just a bunch of red fabric. Not very creative? The devil cat costume is available for purchase, making it one scary option for your four-legged buddy.
Lamb Cat
Mary had a little cat its fleece was white as snow? This adorable outfit will have everyone hemming and hawing over your adorable little feline friend. Just keep in mind that this is a full-body costume and therefore you shouldn't leave your kitty inside of its warm enclosure for too long.
Plus, this cat really doesn't look pleased with the costume it is being forced to wear. We suggested dressing up your furry little friend and then quickly removing them from this lamb costume before they get angry. Seriously, cats scare us when they get mad and that stare doesn't look pleasant.
Frankenstein Cat
If Dr. Frankenstein was to create a Halloween costume for their cat this would be the final result. You don't need a lot of materials to create Dr. Frankenstein's monster, just a little bit of cardboard and some paint. Obviously, this costume isn't going to sit perfectly on a cat's head so you might want to try some soft material with inspiration borrowed from this outfit.
This cat doesn't look super amused by their costume so be sure your cat doesn't freak out and take the same patch as Dr. Frankenstein's Monster after putting on their new Halloween costume.
Adorable Cowboy Cat
One of the most creative ways to dress up your four-legged friend is by exposing their front paws so it looks like they are walking on two feet. This costume accomplishes that goal perfectly while making your furry little cat look like a new sheriff just strolled into town.
From the cowboy hat, that likely won't stay on for long, to the handkerchief, plaid shirt, and pants, this really is a costume that put the entire concept of an old-fashioned outfit to the test. This cat even has the look of a grizzled old town sheriff who is out to do away with the bad guys in their tiny little western town.
Aviator Cat
This cat gets all the females. They dress like a bad boy, they can fly a plane, and they don't seem to have a care in the world. You probably won't sew your own jacket like this costume so your best bet is looking for an aviator cat costume on the internet.
Cat protective eyewear like this actually exists so that's one less obstacle standing in your way. If you have a love of aircraft and you don't want Snoopy to be the only animal who gets to fly around and fight the Red Baron, this is a must-have costume for your cat this Halloween.
Hello Kitty Cat
Dressing a cat up as a cartoon cat is super meta. Case in point, this Hello Kitty cat costume that was created specifically for a cat to wear! It's Hello Kitty Kitty. Unlike a lot of the headpieces we have spotted with cat costumes, this one actually looks like it forms around a cat's head pretty nicely.
Our feline friend might not love getting dressed up for Halloween but at least they get to remain some semblance of the animal they actually are. We have to wonder out loud if these cats get dressed up and then freak out because their appearance has changed.
Bumble Bee Cat
This cat's costume is all the buzz -- at least around our office. How can you not fall in love with a little cat dressed like a bee? This works great with black cats because their face matches a bee's and their black tail jetting out the back of their costume resembled a stinger. This cat doesn't look thrilled about being dressed up like a bumble bee.
However, that mean look on their face really does a good job of capturing the attitude of a bee. You can create this look by wrapping a few yellowed of fabric around your black cat's body and then adding some wings and a headpiece with antennae.
Yoda Cat
We're not going to attempt to write this description like Yoda talks because that is super annoying. Yoda was already a very small character on "Star Wars," at least in terms of his actual size. Dressed a cat up like Yoda makes a lot of sense because they also share the desire to be left alone, seemingly for periods of reflection.
They also have super fast reflex, are incredibly loyal even when teaching us a lesson, and they both only talk at us when they have something important to say -- at least we assume that's why cats rarely meow at us.
Pikachu Cat
We always knew Pikachu was just a cat in surprise. In this costume, the cat's owner went a little overboard by using a pet-friendly die to turn their little kitten yellow and brown. They even nailed Pikachu's rosy cheeks and nose.
We really don't recommend turning your animal a different color for Halloween but this little kitten doesn't seem to mind that their entire body is now a different color. This is the point when we realized the Pokemon craze has gone overboard and we need to walk away slowly. Still, we love that so many people are giving this kitten all of their attention.
Nibble Cat
The Nibbler costume is the perfect option if you are in need of a quick cat costume and you don't feel like waiting for something to ship from an online purchase. All you need is a piece of red velvet, a foam ball, and some type of flexible piping to create the main headpiece.
As an added bonus, your cat will probably love attempting to swat at the little ball that is now sitting atop its head. We admit that your cat will probably make quick work of this costume but the pictures you'll be able to take in the short term will make up for the costume's immediate destruction.
Scuba Cat
Cats generally hate water and we have a feeling putting them in fins and a wetsuit and then applying a snorkel tank won't help. If Scuba Steve owned a cat this would be it! Yes, this is a photoshopped outfit but someone with decent sewing skills could definitely make a similar outfit and win over the internet.
We love that this costume features a hood with built-in spots for a cat's ears. Honestly, if we saw a cat swimming in the deep ocean in scuba gear we would pack up our belongings, return to shore, and never attempt another sea-worthy exhibition ever again.
Spider Cat
Cats are completely capable of acting really weird and creepy on their own. Throw them in a spider outfit and suddenly they are furry balls of creepiness. If they bite you with their spider teeth they will surely sink one of their claws into your body. The more we think about this combination the more arachnophobia is starting to sink in.
Cats are some of the cuteness creatures on the plant but apparently, we do have the ability to make them super creepy. We're going to skip this costume entirely and go for something a little bit more comfortable and adorable.
Superman Cat
This super cat can jump over gates in a single bound and steal that food you accidentally left on the table after dinner. It's hard to picture a cat wanting to fight crime and save humanity. Then again, we clean out their litter boxes and save them from freezing cold winters and dogs. Perhaps the cat and human relationship is the biggest love/hate story of all time.
This cat looks super adorable in their super kitty outfit but their stare kind of looks like a deer in headlights scenario. You can make this costume on your own or look for it online because there seems to be an obsession with ready to buy superhero outfits for felines.
Another Pirate Cat
Apparently, this cat pirate's bounty is a 12-pack of Dr. Thunder soda. With a simple pirate hat and a handkerchief, this is a simple outfit to master with little work. We don't particularly like that this cat's claws are at the ready for a strike but that is also a very pirate friendly move.
At least there is no mobility lost with this outfit. We might be giving this cat more credit than is due because the cross-eyed look on their face is adding to how adorable they are in real life. Either way, this costume is still adorable and easy to pull off.
Sherlock Holmes / Dapper Cat
Does your cat sneak around the house and spy on you from a distance? They might be attempting to solve a crime. If that's the case, they could probably benefit from this simple to create Sherlock Holmes Halloween costume.
This is definitely an outfit that won't constrict your cat's movements although we doubt the hate will remain on top of their head for too long. If you have a second cat you can mimic this outfit in different colors and you'll have Holmes and Watson reunited. It's also a great outfit for your cat's next dinner party because that's totally a real thing.
