This man adopted the baby he found abandoned in a Subway

Adopted baby from Subway in NYC

Danny Stewart was passing through a New York City subway station back in 2004 and little did he know that trip was about to change his life for the better.

Danny is a social worker in New York who was going about his day when he saw a strange sight.

“As I was leaving the subway, I glanced over to my left and thought I saw a doll,” he said. “I continued up the stairs because I didn’t think anything of it, but I glanced back at the floor and I saw legs moving.”

Danny soon realized that a little baby had been abandoned in the subway. The child, he explained, couldn’t have been more than a day old.

Danny called 911 and then his partner, Peter Mercurio. “Danny is a really calm person so when he called me frantic, I knew something was wrong,” said Peter.

New York authorities named the baby Daniel Ace Doe – “Ace” after the subway (the ACE subway trains) and Daniel, for the man that found him.

One month after he found the baby a New York City judge asked if the couple would like to adopt the child. The couple legally adopted the baby, and renamed him Kevin.

The new parents wanted to make sure their son knew the full story of where he came from, so they had a childrens book made that told the story of his discovery in the subway. “He looks at us, and he says, ‘Is this about me?’ And we were like ‘yes,’ and he grinned from ear to ear,” said Peter. “I thought it was the best thing in the world, to know that was me,” said Kevin.

Today, Kevin is a happy and healthy 12-year-old boy who loves playing with his dads while enjoying a life that could have turned out very differently for him.

Here’s the story of this miraculous father and his adopted son.
