This mama Goose found a police officer to help her trapped gosling

Police rescue gosling

When humans are in trouble and need help immediately they call the police. Apparently that’s also what a mama goose does when one of her goslings are in trouble.

Cincinnati Police Sergeant James Givens was alarmed when a goose began pecking at his cruiser door. He assumed she was hungry but found it odd that she would approach him.

“It kept pecking and pecking and normally they don’t come near us. Then it walked away and then it stopped and looked back so I followed it and it led me right over to the baby that was tangled up in all that string,” Givens told WKRC.

Here’s the officer retelling his story.

The gosling was wrapped around a string tied to a Mother’s Day balloon near a creek.

Givens first attempted to contact the local SPCA but there was no one available.

Givens and Specialist Cecilia Charron stepped up and got the job done.

“Well she has a couple of kids of her own and I guess that motherly instinct must’ve kicked in because it was like they communicated. The mother goose didn’t bother her,” Givens said. “So Specialist Charron came and untangled it. It took her a while because it was all wrapped up.”

Givens filmed the entire encounter which is shown below:

“I always thought that they were afraid of people and people say they will attack you if you get close to their young’uns and I was just surprised,” Givens said.

After the gosling was set free, it ran very quickly into the nearby creek to swim with its mother.
