Advent calendars are typically great if you love a piece of candy each day or a small bottle of whiskey (yes that actually exists).

Benjamin Hewins from London in the United Kingdom took the idea of an advent calendar to a whole new and exciting level.

Hewins built a giant advent calendar for his wife and behind each door he put a gift for her to unwrap each day.

“She is quite creative and is always making me cool things so I wanted to do something for her this year that was a bit quirky, creative and original,” Hewins told Metro. “So, I came up with a giant advent calendar with actual presents behind every window.”

The calendar was no small undertaking, standing at 7’5″ tall. The entire calendar was made out of wood and then painted by Hewins.

His wife was treated to scarves, shoes, and other holiday gifts.

The idea for the calendar was something his wife thought up and he took and ran with.

“A few years ago for Christmas, my wife left a present for me everyday during December in one of my drawers with a heart-shaped note that read ‘on the xx day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…a new pair of earphones for your gym tunes.'”

“I had an idea in my mind of how I wanted it to be but didn’t really know how I’d see it through. So I looked online for advice from people who had made other giant advent calendars and surprisingly, I couldn’t find anyone who had made one before or documented how they’d done it. So I was on my own with this.”

“I got loads of cheap off cuts from my local DIY store, went home and literally winged it from stage to stage.”

He managed to spend two days building the advent calendar while hiding it from his loving wife.

“She got quite emotional and was very overwhelmed.”

“The last time I got that reception was when we were dating and I wrote a poem for her which I then got printed on a T-shirt. I presented it to her in our local Pizza Hut and she cried her eyes out and made all the other customers very uncomfortable as they tucked into their stuffed crusts.”

The ball is in your court husbands. Good luck topping this one.
